Republicans know that the people of the United States DO NOT WANT THEM. Even with massive voter suppression and rampant cheating, they have lost the popular vote — or as it is known in the rest of the world, “the vote” — in seven out of the last eight presidential elections, and only managed to win two of their three terms because of the undemocratic, unfair disproportionate allocation of the Electoral College, which was racist by design (created to preserve the cruel human rights violations of slavery) and current operation today (all five of the states with the smallest populations are the whitest and least diverse, as are nine of the ten smallest, while the largest states in population are also the most diverse).
Republicans know that, especially as the population becomes more ethnically diverse, younger and their voters die out, they are going to become a permanent minority. There are more of us — workers, consumers, and real people of all backgrounds — than there are über-rich corporate Wall $treet barons, religious extremists, or anti-science ignorati. So the only way they can win elections now is by rigging the system, cheating, and preventing blocks of voters from being able to vote based on demographics they find unsympathetic or beyond their ability to manipulate.
Republican measures to obstruct voting have nothing to do with election integrity, as they dishonestly claim. The measures they are trying to block are those that are the safest, most reliable and least subject to voter fraud.
And of course, as they always do, the Republicans accuse others of their own character defects and, any time they lose elections, they accuse others of rigging elections, cheating and all of the things of which they are most guilty.
Yep, gerrymandering, movable polling places that are inadequate to the number of registered voters… and “purging” the voter lists, and discriminatory ID requirements, and voter registration rules that take away in the fine print what they lie about in the form itself.
…
And AZ is looking into allowing the state legislature to replace the duly elected Electors with people of their own choosing.
And the question remains….what has really changed in Georgia? If the party of the white majority is colluding to remove the vote from African Americans. Oh! the lynching parties of the future!! In color!!
“The things they had in there were crazy. They had levels of voting, that if you ever agreed to it you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.” – T-p.
The Republican Party has one big advantage, and that is money. Money to influence voters, and money to buy whoever does get elected. And a population of people that don’t know, don’t care, and don’t vote. That makes four advantages, I guess.
The GOP is fully aware that their venal, stone-hearted agenda is an abomination in the eyes of the hoard. They have no problem living with that. In fact, they’ll do anything to make that agenda into a reality, from simple lies to fascist insurrections. I’d have a tad of respect for the GOP if it would simply be honest and forthright – admit they are far from patriots who support the Great Experiment, and rename themselves to the Fascist Party of America.
No, they’re trickier here in NC and other Southern states. They reorganize all the voting districts so the Dems are all in one district and they have more Reps in every other district in the state.
I think.. the horse is out of the barn. This, is what happens if you give those “other” folk an inch. Should never have given them American rights in the first place.
Republicans should come clean and admit that they want the power to review all votes before they are cast, and to disallow all votes that they do not like…
I’m sorry I even read any of this today. Now I feel terrible. And terribly afraid. And a bit naive. Are things really this bad? To hear “them” on Fox news, you’d get the impression they feel the same about how they KNOW the Dems are going to ruin everything. Yah…ruin things for them! I try to keep more hope in my system than so much negativity, but if things ARE this bad, I’m not looking forward to much more good in anything. Saner minds must be out there somewhere to keep things on an evener keel. It can’t be all this bad…can it??? We simply can NOT allow anyone to lose their right to vote!
The drafting committee for the 2020 platform of the Republican Party initially decided that they didn’t want to (a) meet in person or for very long to do the actual work or (b) be perceived as lazy. So, using the pandemic as an excuse, they came up with the “brilliant” idea of just recycling their 2016 platform, changing nothing but the dates while claiming as a virtue that they stood for timeless ideas.
After a couple of weeks of ridicule, during which many commentators pointed out that the 2020 platform frequently lambasted “the current administration”, they decided to simply not have a platform at all. So what they are today is a Party without a Platform, Plan, Purpose, Principles, or Priorities, based solely on Personalities, Perfidy, and Power.
It makes me sad that blacks will never be treated fairly in this lifetime most people in Senate and congress whether they admit it or not probably had black servants not friends so know nothing about what we went through or are still going through at 62 things I see now are the same things I saw growing up I have lived in Ohio my whole live not down south what will it take to treat us as human beings with the right to vote and every right that white Americans have don’t suppress us any more

Which is why I laugh every time I hear a Republican talk about “the will of the people”. They mean the will of THEIR people.

They are working very hard right now to make sure that people of color do not get to vote next time. Beware of the angry, vengeful Republican.
