One thing I can be daily thankful for. My last name doesn’t end in Butt! Now that would be a bummer. I wonder if this character was some kind of mockery of Dilbert?

My Dad used to take a pocket knife to his dentures. He knew exactly where it hurt him and kept scraping until it didn’t hurt any more. I suspect he was doing something wrong, but it suited him.

Denturist? Is that even a thing? Also, my maternal grandparents both had full sets of dentures. One time my grandpas’ slipped out for a minute… it both freaked me out and made me laugh at the same time. ha! And my grandma’s teeth would click every time she chewed. :)

I had to laugh at this because Mrs. Dilbutt reminded me of a friend of mine who spent a small fortune on her dentures and never seemed to get them to fit properly ( and comfortably ) until she ran into a dental tech who was able to make her ones that were perfect. Not only did she finally get a great set of choppers, but she wound up marrying the guy! True story!

When my dad was in the nursing home towards the end of his life – he kept losing his dentures. How does this happen? He had a room to himself. We got two replacements made, and when the third set disappeared, we gave up.

Funny, for the past 10 years I have had the same problem, except mine was with the VA. Mostly in San Antonio, but looks like I finally got everything fixed by the VA in Tulsa

I was told at a fairly early age that the bony growths in my mouth meant I could never be fitted for dentures. Implants are far pricier, though.

My brother has a full set of dentures and absolutely loves them. I have some implants (not a full set) and find them to be almost a bigger pain than the real teeth. While they do not get cavities, you do have to be super careful when brushing and flossing because the gums will recede if you don’t take proper care of them. Even the hygienist has to use special tools so as to not scratch the titanium.

I wonder why most healthcare systems don’t include dental. So many health problems begin in the mouth. It is horribly expensive here in the US and even if you are lucky to have dental insurance it never covers the really expensive stuff like root canals, etc.

it seems the supplemental dental plans i have looked at have a 1 year waiting plan. so your still paying the majority of the final cost with proceeds going to the insurance . and the dentists are still making money after covering costs.
