I made chili last week. I started with 2 and a half pounds of beef.

I made the mistake of buying meatless chili once. Will NEVER do that again.

I don’t wanna know how a vegetarian chili smells like a chili.

Chili without meat is like eggs without bacon, fish without chips or a B. L. T. without the B.

Not a vegetarian, but I do like to be careful of what I eat. I have cut way back on red meat, had a $12.00 burger the other day (Yum!) after not having had one for a while, and I told my wife, “God really knew what he was doing when he made beef.”

If Gladys is making vegetarian chili, she must not be from Texas.

Poor mans chili, just open a can of chili beans, heat (optional) and eat.

One time I tried making a vegetarian chili to accommodate my son’s girlfriend. I browned and spiced the meat separately, to be added later. No matter how I tweaked the spices in the veggie pot it just did not taste the same. It was alright, but lacking something. Browning everything in the beef fat had to be the secret, since the fat acts as a carrier for the flavors.
