They are the ones spewing hate against Democrats and liberals, claiming they are pedophiles and cannibals. In fact, Qanon compares closely to “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, a Nazi propaganda piece promoting the hatred of Jews. Just like Qanon, they claimed that Jews murdered Christian babies and drank their blood. And, of course, they include Muslims in their list of people to feared and loathed.

Her behaviour was going to cost Disney viewers, and not just for that show. Disney acted in its own best money making interests. Why does Mike hate capitalism?

Not that it was ever all that important to Republicans* (now the Party Of Trump), but the Constitutional oath that the POTers now swear to is their last presidential platform: i.e. NO policies, just whatever The Messiah wants.

She has the right to voice her opinion; Disney has the right to fire her. What’s the problem here?

You idiots and your constant harping on “cancel culture”. How about thinking of it as “consequence culture”? Say what you want, and all you want, just don’t be surprised if there are consequences.

If she were complaining about tax rates, and government regulation (good pre-Trump conservative values), she’d be fine. It’s the support of baseless yet harmful conspiracy theories that her fired.

I don’t even understand the point of this cartoon. Is Lester saying he’s against private companies from operating them the way they think is best for them ? Is this the new Conservative direction ?

Mike Lester LOVES to mislead his fans. The fact is, freedom of speech, so prevalent on the lips of so many of his dim-witted, ignorant, gullible, irrational fans, is a protection against government censorship, not commercial, i.e., employer/employee, censorship. If you’re my employee and you say or do something that I FEEL brings disrepute to my business or jeopardizes my current or future financial well-being, I can fire you. That’s business and any jackass who tells you differently is either lying, drunk, or a blithering idiot. High profile individuals, e.g., celebrities, should be particularly aware of that. Of course, it depends on the celebrity’s intelligence, education, and experience. If they’re stupid, they will be blindsided by reality. Live and learn.

Let’s not forget that one of Disney’s largest and most influential stockholders is Trump crony Ike Perlmutter, who’s been protective of conservative opinion. Carano, however, bit the hand that was shielding her — Perlmutter is a high-profile supporter of Israel and of Jewish causes. Trivializing Holocaust-era persecution of Jews is never a good idea, but when you’re under the aegis of an Israeli-born billionaire it’s a lethal dose of insensitivity and stupidity, whether you reach anti-Semitic attitudes from the left or the right.

She had the right to free speech. She won’t go to jail for saying stupid crap.

And Disney has the right to fire her. They are a private corporation.

Technically she wasn’t even fired. Actors usually are not employees; they’re gig workers, independent contractors who can be dropped at any time for any reason at all. Disney just isn’t going to be calling her back for any more work. And it’s not like this was a surprise; she’s apparently been warned before, so her character was popular enough that they were willing to give her a second chance. And then she blew it.
