Ya no, if the right is talking about cancel culture, ya no it is them doing it. Like when trump said Hillary would have the most corrupt administration ever, he was actually talking about his own. Right-wingers, the party of deflection and lies.
Just try telling the truth about American history (like Howard Zinn), the Orange Buffoon or Republicans in general. Try taking about economic class in this country and how the rich and powerful (the owners) run everything and don’t give a wet fart about the rest of us. Try talking about Occupy Wall Street, BLM or antifa. Try talking about the military industrial complex, big pharma or big banks.
So no one ever discussed slavery before the 1619 project was a thing? I seem to recall Roots being the most viewed miniseries in history back in the 70’s. But why let a little thing like reality interfere with your race baiting?
Roots was ‘the most viewed’ and highly discussed because it was (at least in my lifetime/recollection) the first time slavery had been put right out in front of white faces in a mass medium, all but unavoidable way. Forty-some years ago, plenty of time to have been all-but-forgotten. “1619” is just the “Roots” of contemporary times, calling AGAIN (because calling again is so clearly necessary) for mass confrontation with history.
So, how does any nation reconcile with its minorities, if we never discuss the history? I seem to remember something along the lines of ‘if we don’t learn from history………………?’
I was raised in Texas, took a semester of Texas history in 6th grade, another in high school, and another in college ( elective, figured it was an easy A). It wasn’t until I did some reading on my own that I learned that the Texans rebelled and the glorious, Alamo, of which all Texans are so proud was fought because the Mexican government had outlawed slavery. History is written by the winners, and they edit as needed to make themselves the heroes.
The 1619 Project is virulent historical revisionism and continues the trend in America of Anglification of History by erasing all Spanish mention from it.
The first Africans brought to America as slaves were by the Spanish in 1526. A colony was established near Georgetown, SC. When it was abandoned, the slaves were simply let loose where they were eventually taken by the Lumbee tribe. This history is still not taught in SC schools….

There are a lot of parts of history I’d like to opt out of.
But that’s not how history works.
