Medicare for All is socialist. Public schools, roads, mail service, etc are socialist. Anything the government does to serve the people is socialist. Socialism is a scary word for Republicans. It is necessary for Republicans to use scary words to convince their base that they should remain loyal, because if they actually understood that they are voting against their own best interests they wouldn’t be Republicans. They have been taught that socialism is scary. 1%er owned news outlets have been telling them so for about 40 years now. So, if they are told someone is socialist, they don’t educate themselves to find out exactly what they are supposed to be afraid of. It’s a pretty shaky system and it’s amazing that people have fallen for it long enough for the country be in the condition it is, but they have.

A lot longer than 40 years. The Red Scare took place after WWI and before that labor unions were deemed socialist. Of course there actually were some scary socialists in those days. Now most socialists in the US would turn us into terrible places like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, or even Finland. /s

The right so over used “communism” as a scary word it had began to lose any fear factor and after the USSR collapse from over reaching in Afghanistan and trying to keep up in an arms war with the US that communism just wasn’t scary enough for them anymore, they adopted “socialism” thinking it would work just as well. To be honest it certainly does scare those too stupid to understand what it is and that we already are a very socialistic country. I mean really! Public roads! Public Hospitals! Public Libraries! Some places even have Public Utilities! The Horror! Police and Fire Departments! Armed Forces!! We are so far down the socialistic rabbit hole we may never recover!!!

There are a boatload of Bernie and his mittens memes out there. As I was typing this my brother sent me one where Bernie is in the balcony at the Muppet Show with Statler and Waldorf. My favorite is the one where Bern has joined the iron workers for lunch on the Empire State Building in that iconic photo. :)

Does anyone not really understand now why that the GOP is so against education? You can’t con an educated person into believing crap like this. But an uneducated religious person will swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

I’m reading modern history through the eyes of journalist Maria Hinojosa, ONCE I WAS YOU , (2020). Half way through the book I have gone from Reagan, to Clinton, to GW Bush and Sept 9/11 and getting a valuable view from her perspective as a Latina. I recommend this book!
