He walked to school … in 6 feet of snow … 5 miles … uphill … each way.

I usually liked walking to school. On nice days, I carried my shoes.

Your children may make you old, but your grandchildren can make you feel the old in your body. I probably wouldn’t survive having great grandchildren.

Well my mom has 2 daughters, 4 granddaughters and one of those (the eldest) has given her 6, almost 7 great grandchildren (ages from 15 to one due in Feb). Our extended family finally has blood relatives that are males! My niece has G/B/B/GG/B/ and 1 as yet unknown).

They are all taught to treat their great-grandmother gently. She can play with them as long as they are using stuffed animals or having her read to them, but no active running/throwing games. Seems to be working. Oh, and no throwing themselves at her for hugs. Gentle is the primary word. :o)

I probably walked about a mile to my elementary school. The junior high was slightly closer, as was the high school.

Kids today are spoiled. When I started kindergarten riding the bus wasn’t even an option. At least it was safe since I didn’t have to cross any streets.
