I’ve probably watched more Senate and House footage in the last few months than the total of the rest of my life. I have concluded that those guys (and a few gals) are basically a millionaire’s club for people who simply LOVE to talk in big round sonorous periods. And they love it so much they’re willing to occasionally even be there while the other ones do it. Though mostly, and quite amusingly, they’re talking only to a microphone unless it’s a TV op. And that was BEFORE masks.
So yeah, standard ridiculous. Though I do guess that other “representative” forms of government probably attract the same sort of person.
Let’s see how the Republicans are willing to work across the aisle to make America Great Again for ALL of America. We’re ALL watching and so is the WORLD.
Speaking of ridiculous, Just in: “Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has filed articles of impeachment against Joe Biden the day after he was inaugurated as president.”
I very happy that Biden and Harris won. A second Trump administration would have been a disaster for the country and for the world. I think Biden has been politically astute in the period since the election. I also think that he will do his best to get the pandemic under control. I am not sure, however, that he or the Democratic Party can fully grapple with the serious problems that remain. They will do something for the climate, but not enough and not fast enough. They will do something to reduce income inequality, but they won’t be able to make the systemic changes that are needed. And so on. We’ve seen this movie a hundred times, and it never changes.
And for anyone who has read the beginning of Kim Stanley Robinson’s Ministry of the Future the following indicates that the death of a city from an extended heat wave may turn from SF to reality.
The right-wing nuts complaining about Biden’s 1st week during his 1st day is like Rush Limbaugh referring to “the Obama recession” before Obama’s inauguration.
