Both sides have to be willing to undertake the journey. Compromise and cooperation is NOT “you do everything that I want and then I might consider it unity”…
“Healing” starts with holding the criminals accountable for their crimes.
If we let the insurrectionists in the House and Senate off the hook for their complicity in the violent assault on the Capitol, it only conveys the message that it’s permissible to try it again.
If we let the criminals in the prior administration slip away without indicting and trying them on the extensive and overt violations of this nation’s laws, it only enables the next authoritarian “populist” dictator-wanna-be to be even more egregious.
It’s not the incoming President’s place to drive this effort.
It’s the job of the Justice Department to investigate, indict, convict, and imprison.
One thing that Biden needs to do immediately, however, is replace the multitude of Inspector Generals that Trump fired because they were nosing around in the corrupt behaviors of his Administration.
It is going to be an uphill battle, but it is going to be worth it in the end. I am hoping that once he gets motion in the fight on the virus and people start to see even a little result, that more will join in as far as complying. From what I have read, the former admin really were not complying with anything the last 2 months (yes, I know, longer than that, trying to be kind). I think even with the division that is going on in the Catholic Church right now, when some of the right wing Catholics see that his faith is not just a show, they may start to come together too. At least he won’t be holding a Bible upside down as a prop
