There was much bravery displayed by those who stood and voted YEA. We need to remember, these are people whose lives were threatened and yet they acted quickly and decisively to go against the mob and defend our Constitution. They will need our support.
Tell me again the advantage to justice with our system of “checks & balances” that we achieve with our mutually-exclusive [bitterly, irrationally] opposing party system … that currently prioritizes party above country?
Moscow Mitch refuses to remove Trump. Trumps evil minions are going to attack the capitols of many states this weekend. Will the evil fiend seditious Trump in the WH declare martial law to protect his Maga troops?
I don’t think that the Founding Fathers ever envisioned that someone who would abuse the pardon power would ever succeed in making it to the highest office in the land. I sure wish that were so…the past four years have put quite a strain on Lady Liberty.
I don’t like to give Mr. Trump any credit, but there are two things he does well. He knows how to spot and exploit the weakness in any situation and he has the ruthlessness to do so. I think all dictators have that “talent”. If Trump were a younger man, he’d be back and we’d be in real trouble.
In a way, that’s a service to our country. We have been plagued with racism since the start of our stay here in North America. It’s never gone away, even if we’ve made some progress. It’s embedded in the Constitution, in our laws, in our religions, in our economy. The same can be said about class. Our country was designed by rich white men to benefit rich white men.
Mr. Trump exploited that, mostly for his benefit, and now it is out there for everyone to see. The question is what are we going to do about it.
Not over yet; even if he is convicted. While I didn’t hear any of the so far un-indicted co-conspirators defend him, I did hear a lot of primary campaign speeches.
—) Even Hari Seldon of the far-future Foundation, with his complex predictions using psychohistory techniques, did not foresee The Mule. Our nation’s Founders did not foresee The Trump. (Conf. “The Foundation Series” by Isaac Asimov.) In comparison to re-directing an entire galactic civilization, fixing a mere nation should be a snap. But who knew there would be so many psychos?
What, no lies, inanities, and insanities from “John Adams”, or Montana Swill, or Andy Illiterate? What is the world (or the comic strip comment portion thereof) coming to?
How date they impeach emperor Donald ? Do they not know that the his majesty was appointed by god almighty himself ( we certainly didn’t elect him ) and we mere mortals are duty bound to believe everything he says and obey his every whim.
I’ve wondered more than once WHY a person (to use the term loosely) who only worships himself and Roy Cohn (in that order) could possibly appeal to people who have the gall to call themselves “Christians.” I mean, do they not KNOW an anti-Christ when he commits treason in front of them???!!!!
“I can’t be a juror who convicts the mob boss because then a bunch of thugs will come to my house and kill me and murder my family” seems like it might not be the statement of unity and healing Republican Senators think it is.
The authors also set things up so the Veep was the person with the SECOND most votes for President. That would have kept the Prez on his (not ‘her’ in those days) toes. But almost immediately, they changed it because it DID substantially reduce the power of the Pres.
Good one, Mr Carroll. —Well, no great achievement, they’re all good.
Of course, the remedy is easier to plan than to execute. Maybe it didn’t occur to Madison that it can take a long time to impeach & remove a president, during which time he (or she) might cause much more mischief. And I suppose that in those palmy days there\ was still the hope that “party politics” would never trump (koff) patriotic duty. But I marvel that the Publican organization talks of expelling Liz Cheney (or something) for voting to impeach the president. Bless me, did Ms Cheney take an oath of some sort to Donald J. Trump?? (That must have come after her oath to the constitution, impeachment and all, since apparently it supplanted it.)

Its obvious that god decided the dems should have the house, senate and presidency to fight the great evil the republicans have purposefully become.
