Homo sapiens are social animals. We lose our top-of-the-food-chain status if we don’t work together. That requires some level of accommodation to others. Note that even those “self sufficient” loners typically carry guns they didn’t make, use tools they didn’t make, from metals they couldn’t forge, from ores they didn’t mine.
