Don’t you know the difference between a fender and a bumper Opal. Yesterday you told Earl you dented the bumper turns out it’s the left fender. Walk around the car Earl no telling what else you may find.

Now why would Earl want to drive a double-dimpled Studebaker? To be made fun of by other passersby motorists!

I had a friend who lived on a communal farm way the heck and gone on the other side of a lake. They needed a pickup, and got a brand new one (I have no idea how that happened for a commune). When the roads became passable that summer, the brought it to the farm and… were very careful not to damage it. Which put a huge strain on everybody. After some months, they were pulling something out of a field and the back slid sideways into a tree, putting a serious dent in the rear fender. The driver pulled the fender off the tire, and finished the job. When he reported the accident to the group, he expected to be pretty thoroughly reamed out. But in fact everybody just shrugged and somebody said “That’s a relief. Now we don’t have to worry about being the first one to dent it!”.

My friend reported that by the next year, they had all decided that what they wanted was the utility, not the appearance which got adjusted pretty often…

(He never did fess up that he was the one who put the first dent in, but I think he probably was.)

It is political incorrect that only women cause dents in a car’s body. When men hit something driving they mostly end up with a total löss.

You’re neither sorry nor taking responsibility, Opal. If Earl had put a tiny chip in one of your china plates, you would have gone ballistic and he would have never heard the end of it.

I put a small dent in the corner of my bumper of my new Jeep, by nudging the mailbox. It’s plastic, and the body shop can’t fix it. No biggie, but I would be heartbroken if it had been a Studebaker!

That little dent can be pulled out and it’ll be good as new. Unlike the new cars. The whole fender would have to be replaced costing a lot more.

Earl should be very thankful, she didn’t enter the house with the steering wheel in her hand like someone named Loretta does regularly in the comics universe.

Our 1951 Studebaker Commander, parked on the street in front of our house, was plowed into by an intoxicated gentleman driving a 1961 Plymouth Belvedere. The chrome on our rear bumper was flaked off down to the bare steel. His front end was buckled to the firewall and the hood bent so badly it blocked the windshield. Dad drove the Studebaker for another 18 months with no problems, the drunk guy’s car was towed and totaled.

I love how Brian chose a vintage, less-known car for the Pickles. The first time I saw it I knew it was a Studebaker. More specifically, a 1951 Champion. I’m assuming it’s a one-owner car. Kudos to the Pickles for keeping it on the road for 70 years!

As a couple of folks have noted, that’s a 1951 Studebaker “bullet car” https://web.archive.org/web/20210126144728/http://www.studebakerpictures.com/bullet.history.html

Sheet metal for Studebakers are hard to find and expensive, I know! I messed yo the right front on my 1951 and it was a chore to find another used one and expensive too!

A Studebaker? They don’t make them anymore so it’s a classic and probably in pristine condition even with the dimple.

Studebaker. Pride of Warren, OH, until it wasn’t. You can still climb through holes in the chain link fencing and walk around inside parts of the rusting factory, but it’s long been picked over for artifacts.

Had a friend who bought a brand new 1957 Chevy in 1957. He drove it to his girl friend’s house. She asked to borrow it. She took out an entire picket fence. The very first day he had the car. In spite of this, he ended up marrying her.

At least she told him. Some of us have to find out the hard way.

“Where’d that latest dent come from?”

“Which dent is that?…Oh, that’s three dents back.”

Friend of mine had a gorgeous white wing on her driver-side door. Complimented her on it. She said,‘What detailing? I side-swiped a post!’. Suggested she go back and side-swipe the other side.
