At Christmas and Easter, Varvel shows his artistic skill. As for his label for this one, tell it to the money-changers! ;^)

Then the hypocrites murdered the man when he told them to love everyone.

Peaceful? I doubt many of Gary’s supporters would think so. As per Luke’s gospel: “He has shown the strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.”

Great cartoon, Varvel. Since reality is so harsh, let us all cling to our fantasies and myths.

Probably not the day to point out that it has not worked out that way. If “that” was intended to bring peace and harmony it failed. Religious strife has led to more suffering and death than one cares to think about.

But.. Merry Christmas anyway, at least its a day off from work for many.

The reason we celebrate Christmas in December is because the church wanted something to celebrate during the time of the Winter Solstice (12/21) and on December 25th in particular because they wanted something to celebrate during the Roman feast of Saturnalia, a feast dedicated to Saturn (called Cronus by the Greeks), the titan who fathered Jupiter (Zeus), the king of the gods, as well as his brothers Neptune (Poseidon), the god of the sea and Pluto (Hades) the god of the dead and of wealth. No matter what the reason, I hope you all have a happy holiday.

And when Jesus had made a whip of cords, he drove all the moneychangers out of the temple, and poured out their money, and overthrew their tables. And because it was not a peaceful demonstration, he was justly and properly punished by crucifixion.

Leave it to Varvel to tie his Christianity to a political soundbite like “peaceful demonstration”. Hypocrisy, thy name is Varvel.

See Varvel’s Dec. 23rd “offering” for a truer example of his thinking!

Real Jesus would not like racism, pardoning criminals, oppression of social outgroups, concentration of wealth in a few, right wing gun nuts – and though I doubt he’d have a special affinity for Americans, neither would he like the efforts to subvert our democratic republic.

Gary, keep your superstations out of our Government.

The belief that a Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh, drink his blood and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree."

    Makes Perfect Sense.

And in breaking news, President Eject Donald tRump has ordered federal officers to take control of the town of Bethlehem where it is reported that the true Messiah has been born. President Eject tRump called the birth of this child, named Jesus, a coup attempt and is considering declaring Martial Law. President tRump has begun sending in federal officers to quell a gathering of shepherds, and their flocks who have been declared by the tRump administration as a terrorist organization. At the scene three wise men were taken into custody for aiding and abetting the alleged coup and found to be in possession of what the White House is labeling bomb making materials……………………… We will have more on this breaking story at eleven.

A large part of the Jesus thing was protest. Violent protesting the money changers in the temple. Inciting protest at the hypocrite Scribes and Pharisees. He wasn’t the only one proclaiming to be Messiah, many were claiming to have been sent to wrest Jerusalem back from Roman control. All were violently put to death by the cops of the day.
