Shouldn’t the message be that Uncle Sam is doing his utmost to protect us from Covid-19 and all the assholes who pooh-pooh social distancing and not only wearing anti-Covid-19 masks, but also wearing the masks correctly?
The original Sisyphean message is that the struggle to get the damned boulder to the top of the hill is FRUITLESS. Does Ariail contend that it’s fruitless to struggle against Covid-19 or is Ariail yet again displaying his utter misunderstanding of this bit of Greek Mythology? If so, it underscores the wisdom of the saying that “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.”
Why in God’s name would Ariail use the Sisyphean legend of fruitless struggle as a metaphor for our struggle against Covid-19 and the 70+ million Capo-in-Chief supporters? If Ariail has a comment that is germane, let him make it, but to use Sisyphus inappropriately, even incorrectly, to make an ambiguous point about God know what seems to be the extent of his intelligence, his education, and his experience. As a result, his not-very intelligent, not well educated, and naïve fans will be satisfied by making up their own stories about what Ariail’s message is and then slink off satisfied.
My complaint is that Ariail’s political cartoons are ambiguous and they’re ambiguous because Ariail doesn’t seem to know or understand what’s going on in the world. Readers should be able to home in on a political cartoonist’s meaning in a nanosecond so that they can agree or disagree as suits them.
It’s not that way with Ariail. Because HE doesn’t know what’s going on in the world or how to interpret it, he can’t intelligently comment on it, but, of course, he needs to deliver SOMETHING to his editor, so he draws on specious and spurious allusions to whatever provides the gloss of meaning and forces readers to make the most of what he provides. Surprise, it’s ALL bullshit. Ariail reminds me of my youngest grandniece: they’re both babbling.

It’s not just America pushing uphill. Also not shown are Trump, Giuliani, and “friends” pushing downhill from above.

Shouldn’t we all be behind Sam, pushing with him? Not the RWNJs, of course. But people who live in the here-and-now?

It’s a losing battle, the virus will split into multiple copies and uncle Sam only has two arms.

The GOP could stop pushing back down the hill and get behind Sam.
