Of course a rhinoceros is from the Greek rhinokerōs ‘nose-horned’. So this is no stupider than 2020 generally. In fact, Q-Anon is pretty much proof that there are things stupider than… well pretty much anything.

But first a visit to the hyptnopotamist…

He “nose” what he needs but he’s “snout” in the right place.

Fun fact: the Rhinoceros Party in Canada was named so because politicians are slow, near-sighted and thick-skinned. Their amusing platform included solving traffic congestion by switching to driving on the left side of the road, but it would be phased in with trucks and buses going first. Almost won a seat in Parliament.

Oh, come on! It can always get more stupid. It’s one of the few reliable things in life – along with yes, it can get worse (so quit challenging the cosmic powers by saying it can’t. They love to prove you wrong.)

I worry that so many newspapers have reduced the size of comics that readers won’t be able to see the name on the clinic door. But then I reflect that small children can’t read it at all, and many adults won’t know the term. And I reflect that, for them, it is simply an amusing drawing while those of us who know what rhinoplasty means can simply have a deeper enjoyment of today’s strip.

As impossible as it sounds, things can always get worse almost easier than they can get better.

RINOs are working on their herd immunity/mentality so expect a thinning.

Reminds me of Ionesco’s play “Rhinoceros”, where people began turning into rhinos – a comment on the spread of fascism at the time and an EXTREMELY apt ending comment to this year of fascism growing from the top down.

Soon the year will turn 21 and can legally drink. Then we will really be in trouble!

This year, you have done your utmost, through trying times, to help us to keep senses of perspective and humor. I think, by almost any measure, you have succeeded admirably. Please accept the gratitude of your readers.

May the New Year bring a lightening of mood for us all, and may it be one of relaxed inspiration for you. Particularly may it, at its end, find you and yours in good health and hopeful spirits as we discover that there are ways to sort the mess that is the refuse of 2020.

Let us all remember that this year – in spite of the failures and woes – has produced some remarkable progress. This is true particularly in the field of medicine, where science cut the development of a vaccine for a brand new plague by a factor of 6, reducing the cycle to months instead of years. And let us learn from our mistakes, to listen and hear the wisdom of others regardless of faith, political party, or personal background.
