What a stupid stupid cartoon. First of all, no cops are coming to your door. Second, you’re a selfish, dangerous, unloving fool if you’re having a large family gathering with no precautions. So, Bok, are YOU gonna host a spreader event?
Chip, when are you rightees going to give up on accusing us leftees of wanting to establish a police state and somehow go door to door grabbing all of your guns? Show some imagination.
Well, if the people you support politically are behaving as pathetically as Republicans currently are, the best you can do as a cartoonist is lightweight nonsense such as this.
Much as I hate to say—Oregon’s governor has suggested that large family gatherings for Thanksgiving could be reported to police just as one would report loud music that rattles windows or a drunken party that spills out onto the lawn. Should we? Probably. Don’t like the idea, but let’s face it—until we get control(and that means being able to drop the masks), we all have to follow health guidelines strictly. If you are only endangering those in your family, drive on. But when you endanger the general population, stop.
Remember everyone, Baghdad Bok wants large family get-togethers to build those memories. Memories of Nana contracting Covids from her nephew Bubba. Memories of Nana going to the ICU Mid-December. memories of the family funeral for Nana on Christmas Eve. Ah, such great memories. Brings a tear to your eye and a song in your heart:
I’ll be gone by Christmas.
Covids got to me.
Beneath the snow, and mistletoe, I’ll be RIP.
Christmas Eve will find me.
Six feet deep, you’ll see.
Yes, I’ll be dead by Chri-is-mas, from Covids you gave me.
This guy would fit right into any totalitarian state you can name. A citizen’s desire to narc on their neighbours for any deviation is essential to maintain law and order.
Spouse and I were in the grocery yesterday. Spouse had forgotten to put on her mask (glasses, cool moist weather…). Neither of us noticed… Suddenly an employee appeared and offered her a mask. I have no doubt that somebody outed her. (The employee was polite and helpful).
The irony, is he’s definitely a Trumper. I know someone that went over the right wing deep end, and yeah, flaunt the laws, but are the first to turn in a neighbor burning a few leaves after having a bon fire at their place.

Anybody wishing to be with more than 10 people can volunteer at their local hospital or food bank. Reports are that they can use the help…

Would not have to be in this situation if folks had masked up, washed up and practiced social distancing in April, May and June.

No need for a surveillance drone. We’ll be able to follow the trail of new infected patients.

Nice reference to the famous Twilight Zone episode “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”, dealing with neighbor paranoia, blame and shame.
