First snow of the year that is actually sticking so far this year started yesterday afternoon and is continuing this morning. Not much in the long range forecast from now to the 25th so I am hoping it will stay cold enough to keep it until then. There is something so dreary about a brown Christmas to those of us who are used to white ones.

Festival of Unmentionable Thoughts: You don’t want to know. If you did know, you’d be doomed. Everyone has thoughts they don’t want anyone else to know. The exceptions are those who write fiction and develop good characters. In a psychological sense, these people are comfortable walking down the street buck naked, because their unmentionable thoughts get published, or at least written. If the thought of that does not make you uncomfortable, perhaps you should take up the fictional pen, pencil, or keyboard.

Speaking of the unmentionable …

National Ding-a-ling Day: (The original content of this portion of the comment has been censored.) There is a revisionist version of this day, on which one calls someone to whom you have not spoken in some time. I prefer the original, of course.

Gingerbread House Day: I’ve never liked them—far too much sugar. I’m also mildly allergic to ginger. Even as a child with a ginormous sweet tooth, I didn’t like any candy or cookie with ginger in it, and was actually afraid of them when quite young, thanks to the story of Hansel and Gretel. As a structural material, the materials scientist in me finds gingerbread repugnant, and only worthy of a recent graduate of an architectural school—almost none of them teach anything about materials. Even the three little pigs knew better. (Straw can be and has been used as a temporary structural material!) Gingerbread houses also attract ants, mice, cockroaches, and cat hair. Only the last is beneficial, adding some much needed fiber and nutritional value to otherwise empty carbs.

If you are a baker and/or like gingerbread, forget I mentioned it …

I wonder how long Lupin will be covered in glitter? IRL, a pet parent would have to clean it off so the cat couldn’t lick it and ingest it.

I feel you, Lupin Old buddy, I really do.

The presents are wrapped and ready to mail, and the dried fruit is soaking now … but I’m too tired to make the fruit cake. By the time it do (tomorrow), it’s liable to be very potent! Can’t wait to taste this fruit cake.

Lupin admits he’s gotta be naughty.

Move over, Puck! I just got added to Santa’s naughty list. I bought a box of Christmas cards because I liked the picture on the front of the box—a snowman out in a snowy field with a two story farmhouse in the background, and some snow covered pine trees. When I opened up the box to start getting them ready to send out, I discovered that all the snow has glitter on it! It’s not solid glitter, but enough to leave a lasting impression on the recipients.

I got potato salad! Are you proud of me Puck?

This whole story arch has been reminding me of that bit from Phineas and Ferb’s Christmas special:“It doesn’t work that way.
