It’s their excuse for dodging doing anything positive to help the majority of American people (you know…those who are not rich donors)…while cutting more fiscal stimulus for the wealthy who are raking in billions (sadly, not an exaggeration)), Now we will start getting the GOP rants about how poor people just don’t want to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, wanting handouts and freebies so they can stay home watching TV and eating fast food. Sheesh,…meanwhile the GOP are doing more insider trading to line their own pockets, while doing nothing constructive to fight this pandemic or the worsening climate change or the massive joblessness plaguing Americans (because all those tax breaks for businesses only help companies job cutting and to do "buy backs’) or finding solutions for affordable housing (not overpriced rat-infested tenements like the Kushner dynasty built their wealth on by bleeding rent raises). Somehow, thoughts and prayers just don’t seem to help.
Yeah, it is funny how Trump ran up the deficit during the BOOMING economy he inherited. Isn’t that the time you are supposed to pay it down? Or was that he only way he thought he could keep it going? Well that and a $1T tax cut that wasn’t paid for for the top 95%.
I suspect “morality” will come into fashion again as well at taking offense at any harsh comments. Hopefully they won’t be as hard on him as they were on Obama where even using mustard was an attack on America; but I doubt it.
It reminds me of the bank bailout started under Geo. W. Bush and signed into law a month before the election. It was far under way when Obama took office, so, later, the republicans blamed Obama for it.
That is, deficits don’t matter until one or more chambers of Congress and/or the presidency is controlled by a Democrat. Then you blame them for all the deficits and debt the Republicans ran up when they ran things, and discount any advances they made to fix the mess the Republicans created.

Too true. That’s the way the party of “fiscal responsibility” deals with deficits.
