In my day we had to grind our own lenses.

you live in a city. There is too much light pollution to see much of anything even with a telescope. I grew up in the country. As I child I could see the constellations and the milky way. By the time I was in my teens the city had grown larger and I couldn’t see the stars any more at night.

Unless the alt-az mount it computerised (and that’s pretty cheap for a computer-drive ’scope), make sure you get an equatorial mount.

$1,300 is cheaper than being in jail for invation to a governmet’s restricted area.

It looks like someone is reaching for a star.

It’s time for Dean to start a paper boy route

I hear there’s an observatory in Puerto Rico that’s on hard times, going cheap.

American Science and Surplus has several Celestron models for a lot less than that.

I hear Roswell, NM is lovely this time of year.

Looks like Dean’s mom is holding a canvas board; so .. perhaps she’s an artist, of some sort..? Neat!
