Before COVID-19, the most severe pandemic in recent history was the 1918 influenza virus, often called “the Spanish Flu.” The virus infected roughly 500 million people—one-third of the world’s population—and caused 50 million deaths worldwide (double the number of deaths in World War I). In the United States, a quarter of the population caught the virus, 675,000 died, and life expectancy dropped by 12 years.
We know when Joe raises his right hand Jan. 20 we know he understands what he’s doing and is serious about it. tRump on the other hand had no idea. It was just a formality.
We all are.. with fingers crossed. Heard on the news trump was inquiring about taking aggressive action against Iran.. trump evidently would like to go out with a bang.. biggliest blunder ever.
Rather count down the day to a sure-thing vaccine. I have lived through every president since 2 years after FDR was inaugurated and every one had a chance to improve this country. The quality has varied from able to inept but most have tried to hold the US to a high standard in the eyes of the world. Biden also will try. And there will be another after him. There’s a process for that and calendars leave no doubt about the schedule.
But there is no calendar for the run of Covid-19, which only destroys lives and families. Until it is shown that vaccines have successfully controlled or even eradicated the beast there will be only Xes and lots of crosses. Prayers for all.
If they have any Advent calendars unsold by, say, mid-December, they should slap new covers on them and sell them for the weeks leading up to the inauguration.
January 8 – It’s a little chocolate Bernie Sanders!
January 9 – The state of Georgia!
January 10 – A twofer for Sunday: Champ and Major!
January 11 – Is that supposed to be Doug Emhoff? I really have no idea…
Sadly, over the years we’ve all seen what happens when folks continue to smoke, fail to wear seat belts, text while driving, fail to see a doctor at least once a year, won’t vaccinate their children or safely store their guns, and yet are shocked by the outcome.

By the time Trump leaves office, more Americans will have died from Covid in one year than died in the Vietnam War…. are we great yet?

I’d like a revised Advent calendar for that, with a daily chocolate until then.

Oldest GOP senator tests positive for COVID-19
Yet another leading Republican has tested positive for coronavirus.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) announced on Tuesday that he would remain in quarantine after testing positive.
Grassley, 87, is the oldest Republican senator and is only months younger than the oldest member of the body.
The Iowa Republican has served in the Senate since 1981 and chairs the Senate Finance Committee.
