How DO you start to get along with someone who was perfectly willing to vote for a traitor, and arguably the murderer of more than 100,000 of our citizens? A misogynist? A grifter and con man? Someone who celebrated caging children and grabbing women without their consent? HOW?

Bok- Do you realize that half the country has an IQ less than 100? In Nevada in 2016 Trump said “We won the evangelicals. We won with young. We won with old. We won with highly educated. We won with poorly educated. I love the poorly educated!”

Snopes.com validated the quote as true.

This statement holds truth, but it also holds true that many on the right feel the same way about Biden. So what now?Well, America has a choice. We can move on, move up, and realize that those people across the aisle are our neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers. Or, we can keep steering our craft of hate heedlessly tow ards towards destruction like we were sailing the Pequod with Captain Ahab.

A long time ago (375 B.C.) Plato noted in his book The Republic that the uneducated crowd was the fatal flaw in the concept of democracy. In his interview with the British Journal THE Financial Times June 2019 Putin outlined how the growth of national populism would make liberal democracies obsolete as the public turned against immigration, open borders and multiculturalism.

Actually, it IS depressing that nearly half the voters opted for a known tax fraud, a known crook who simply doesn’t pay his bills and bilked hundreds of contractors out of their pay, a known liar with thousands of verified lies, a man known to be charged with more than 20 cases of sexual abuse including rape of a minor, a known racist who once ran an ad demanding the death penalty for five innocent young men (and when they were proven innocent said he still thought they should have been executed), a known supporter of Nazis, a known draft dodger, a known science-denier responsible for the world’s worst COVID-19 response…. it’s baffling. We know it’s not about jobs because jobs grew at a faster rate (and better jobs) under Obama. We know it has nothing to do with international security because we are currently a pariah state at our weakest and with the least influence we’ve had in a century. So yes, it does make us wonder WHAT could attract people to him — other than the desire to be angry and best the other guy.

The Dems have won the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 elections.

This is the modern price of appeasing the slave sates.

The Dems and the Libs don’t hate the Trumpers nearly as much as the Trumpers hate Libs.

Bannon wants to decapitate BEHEAD Fauchi and The FBI Director Chris Wray.

I note that Trumpers have said in the last weeks and days that they just want to “own the libs”, “make the libs cry”, “never accept Biden as president.” I note that they are the people who tried to kidnap a sitting governor. They are the ones who bring guns to rallies and threaten and scream in the faces of poor grocery store clerks who are required to remind them to wear masks.

We know some of the answers, but these are still important questions: what is the appeal of Trump for his supporters? What is the appeal of regressive policies for people who will be hurt by them? The people who voted for Trump and who vote for other Republicans are not a monolith, so there has to be a range of answers. I think the Democrats have done a very poor job of explaining to people that progressive policies are good for ordinary working people. Partly this is the legacy of McCarthyism. The Republicans throw the word “socialist” around with abandon, and without much real meaning, if any. It’s just a convenient slur. The Democrats overwhelmingly are simply not socialists, not even Sanders. But there’s a group of people who feel that they have lost out, and they are not entirely wrong. Trump was able to use their sometimes justifiable grievances to stir up a mess of racism and xenophobia, rather than directing their discontent where it really belongs, at the vast accumulation of wealth and power held by the capitalist class. Also, the Democrats need to distance themselves from the slogan “Defund the police.” That’s just a stupid slogan. I’m all for serious police reform, but that stupid slogan just invites misrepresentation.

Another problem I see is the American myth of the rugged individualist. I understand the appeal of that myth. My ancestors were homesteaders in the West, and I grew up spending summers on the family ranch way way up in the Rockies. But the fact is that human beings are social animals, as Aristotle, for instance, recognized. In fact, we were social before we were Homo Sapiens. And it could well be that our increased ability to live in cooperative groups made us more successful than other human varieties. It’s just not true that isolated individuals came together to form a social contract. Society was there first, and we became what we are within society. Learning to organize larger groups in a cooperative way is the key to the survival of the human race.

Yes, I fully realize that and have commented before how sad that is. I knew we still had problems, but I thought we had made great progress from how things were when I was young. It was disheartening to find out how many racist/fascist/homophobe/nationalists sympathizers actually exist. Yes, I hate Nazis and their American incarnation.

I have friends have a compassionate attitude towards Trump and his followers. They viewed Trump as the product of the manner in which he was raised and realize that his accessories come from a form of brainwashing, I continue to try and have the same attitude, but I am falling short. This man has done more damage to my country than any other president that I have known Someday I may be able to achieve the attitude of compassion and loving hope for people like him but I’m not holding my breath for that time.

You’ll draw anything to justify the amount of hate we’re seeing by MAGA right now. A planned attack on a ballot counting center; armed individuals harassing voters on election day; armed protests at ballot counting centers. So much hate indeed; just not the side you drew.

I openly admit I hate Trump. That hatred is well-deserved. I didn’t vote for him in 2016 but I was one of the people who naively hoped he would surprise us and step into his role. I don’t know if I would go so far as to say I hate the half of the country that is still supporting him, but I will admit to an enormous amount of disdain and anger for them. Dictators come into power through willing fools.

What has always amazed me about to populism of the right is that all the changes in our economy that drove away jobs and manufacturing, and reduced wages, and made working conditions worse …. those all happened under a Republican -led Congress. Those are all Republican initiatives. The very things that drive the anger directed at the left are coming from the right. But the right are better liars.
