Courage is doing something worthwhile despite your fear. Doesn’t take courage to do that kind of recreational stuff, it takes craziness.

To answer Rat’s question, listening to the constant barrage of doomspeak. Yes, things are bad, but how does crushing all hope make things better?

Hang gliding is the safest. With the other two, you’re just hoping that somebody set up your equipment properly.

I’ve been hang gliding. That was a LOT of fun. I wouldn’t even consider either of the other two activities.

As difficult as it is these days one should endeavor to look on the bright side of life. For example: Yesterday I heard that because of reduced revenue the MTA was cutting back on bus service. Now I don’t have to worry so much about getting hit by a bus.

A friend shared ownership of a two seat Ultra-light. I flew with him and he crash landed it twice on the same flight. An undercarriage bolt sheared on the first landing skewing us into the trees, and a jury rigged bolt sheared on the return landing.

I am and always have been severely acrophobic. In an office tower, I will not approach the windows. Even though I own a stepladder, I have had to ask a neighbour to change a light bulb for me. Skydiving? Bungee jumping? Just hand me a cyanide pill.

Yet I love flying. By far the most fun flight I ever had was in an open cockpit two-seat biplane — and the best part of that was when the pilot unexpectedly threw the plane onto its wingtips. Pure adventure with never the least trace of nervousness.

How about adding: “…to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part…” for that last clause to this widower after 5-decades is a real bummer?

As much as I am eager for things to get back to normal – the relentless depression doesn’t help me manage the current normal. We’ve had to develop new rules and routines to manage the day to day and finding the small joys and moments of satisfaction and with a little luck, happiness makes a huge difference for me. While it can be overstated, I believe there is a power in free uninhibited laughter and finding the moments when that comes out are precious.

I’ve bungee jumped. It’s not near as scary as what we face today. A full blown pandemic, and a soon to be ex president who appears to be planning a coup because he doesn’t want to accept the fact that America rejected him. Bungee jumping? No comparison.

Haven’t done any of those sporty adventure-thingees, but have observed all three. The one that would make me most nervous is bungee jumping, because I’d always worry that the cord might snap….
