I don’t visit with most of my family. I’m the youngest, and I don’t see things the way they do. They are boomers, and I’m a generation X.

I love my family, extended fam, friends and my dogs. I have never and never will consider their political views as criteria whether I will spend time with them during the holidays or any other time. I’m pretty sure my dogs are socialists as they get everything for free at my expense but I love them more than 99% of the people I know. So, if you have a hard time accepting others because of their politics, perhaps you can just pretend they are a weird breed of dog. :)

Thanks to Trump’s mishandling of the Trumpandemic, I can’t go to the US to visit family and they can’t come here. I can’t afford to pay for two weeks of quarantine when entering Korea when arriving from the US.

The family gatherings for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and News Years Eve will be great little super spreaders.

I’m not going to visit either of my sisters… they are both over 70 and have pre-existing conditions. I’ve been healthy but I do work at the hospital.

I have to fly to see my family for Thanksgiving, so that’s out this year (Thanksgiving is usually the one time a year I see them). My brother and his wife are Christian Right. My sister is Christian Left; her husband is generally Christian Right but can’t stand Trump. I’m Left and not a Christian at all. For years we’ve successfully avoided both religion and politics during family gatherings (at least when I’m there; when I’m not I gather religion comes up a lot). We avoided talking about Trump in 2016 and each year thereafter, so were I there with them this year we could probably do so again.

(My brother’s wife’s father was HARD RIGHT and wouldn’t shut up about it, but he died during the Obama administration; it may have killed him.)

Well, the probable losers have a notoriously short memory (certainly for facts, if not opinions), so MAYBE by T’giving and Christmas, things will have settled down. Of course, it’s also true that reality-oriented family members will be avoiding the traditional big feast with people coming from all over… Which leaves only the ones on the dumb-side list anyway.

Last week, we just, very regretfully, cancelled our family Thanksgiving feast. First time in well over 50 years that we’ll be cooking for only two on that holiday. :(

I’m driving to see my mother and my father for Thanksgiving. One will be elated, and the other will be horribly depressed . . . no matter how the election goes.
