But let’s be real. Whether he’s dithering or not, it is not a simple situation and probably does need thought. It would be great if there were a quick decision, but real life doesn’t usually work that way.

Well we all know that Cheney was plotting the invasion of Iraq as far back as 1997. So yeah, maybe that well thought out long-term planning and lying to the public is a much better strategy.

Oooh, going in half-cocked with not enough soldiers, not enough equipment, not enough understanding of the 3 bitter factions in Iraq, etc… that’s a winning strategy. OOOOhhh no no… how abut start one war and then abandon it to go fight somewhere COMPLETELY unrelated.

Dude, he should totally do that.

Yeah, that’s the ticket! Abandon Afghanistan again, and go finish cleaning up Iraq, so we can all go home and start building something useful.

The simple fact is that if Cheney and Rumsfeld had NOT been in charge, we might well have accomplished the “mission” in Afghanistan more than six years ago, and never have been diverted to the stupid invasion of Iraq. Scott and Andy portray the ignorance of both the American people, and the Cheney/Bush administration, with regard to south Asia, the Middle East, and “little wars”. “Who’s the Boss” was a comedy sit-com on TV. There was nothing funny about people ignorant enough to think “W” was ever really in charge.

Of interest, Obama has now been President one month longer than Bush was on 9/11. On that date Bush assumed total command and assumed responsibility for his own decisions regardless of any previous administration errors. It is about time for Obama to assume total command and assume responsibilities for his decisions. He cannot blame Cheney ad infinitum.

LOL! Libertarian, Bush NEVER accepted any responsibility for 9/11 or any other (of the hundreds) of mistakes that he ever made.

This is spot on… Afghanistan gets ignored for 8 years, and then as soon as Bush is out of office its suddenly Obamas fault.

“Obama has so much on his plate. Perhaps he should start eating it instead of looking at it.”

He only has one mouth. Right now healthcare reform seems to be the main dish. He was quite active pushing for it a while back, remember? When everyone was complaining he was pushing it on all the news?

Obama has already stepped to the plate and taken big steps to help veterans and especially our folks coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. He is not just swinging wildly at pitches far outside the box thrown by the opposing team in efforts that include “bean balls” he must dodge at the same time.

And by the way, Bush and Cheney have still never taken real responsibility for ANY of their errors , including insulting every nation on earth from Bush’s first day in office, that in large part led to 9/11.

When a person creates a stunningly disastrous situation, they remain forever responsible for that situation, and everyone thereafter must look back to that person’s actions to understand what happened and how to move forward. Bush is and will always be responsible for the morass we got into in Afghanistan and Iraq. True, Obama is now responsible for how we move forward – but it is always easier to get into a mess than to get out of it, so it makes perfect sense that he take plenty of time to find the way forward.

By Sept 13, 2001, the world press had numerous articles showing what Bush and company had done to bring on the problem,(NOT “America” per se, there was considerable sympathy for “America”, but specifically the right wing, and most notably “W” Bush) and accurately predicting the mess they would get us into- check BBC, the Guardian and numerous sources. I noted, and predicted, the same in a letter published on Sept 17, 2001. It wasn’t prophecy, just predictability, of idiots. The hole was dug before 9/11, and invading Iraq was the goal.

church, aside from being a nasty swipe, that also misses what trout said. He said our response to 9/11 wasted the great sympathy and willingness to work with us that arose from the attack. And the foundation for 9/11 goes further back than Clinton. BTW, Clinton was every bit as conservative as Bush I, so I’m not sure I consider him Democrat.

Howie, every time we mention Bush’s role in this, you say “There you go again.” But as I said before, you own your legacy – Bush owns his, Obama will own his. I also said you have to go back to review (sometimes over and over) how you got in to the mess before you can unravel it. Those who are unwilling to look at the roots of the problem can’t hope to affect any positive resolution.

What I find frustrating is that you want to start right now with Obama as if there were nothing before, as if the situation started with him. Ie, you do nothing but blame him. And then you scream that there has to be instantaneous action – which of course is how bad decisions are made.

Churchy… NO one is as psychotic as the Frito.

    Well put CDW.

Howie – What CDW said. Obama can only own the way forward. W/Dick/Rummy have to own what they did to make the situation so crappy prior to 1/20/09. Or, they can try (unsuccessfully) to blame it on Clinton/Carter/your mom.
