This makes me very sad. And angry. I guess that’s “sangry” which is altogether too close to sanguinary for my comfort. (OK, yeah, I’m NOT comfortable.)
The only argument the religious zealots have against same sex marriage, is that it is against their religion/bible. No where in the constitution does it say, this document is not for homosexuals.
May not be as dismal as we expect. I posted this elsewhere today, but it seems appropriate here:
Several times… David Souter being a recent example… Republican appointees to this high office have proven to be more moderate than expected, some even skewing liberal quite often.
There may be something about the gravity, the importance of the issues they have to deal with that invests them with a greater seriousness, a gravitas that makes them equal to the task.It may also have to do with the fact that they don’t have to deal with re-election campaigns and can actually follow their consciences as opposed to the demands of a political constituency.
In every Presidential election year for the last half century, Republican appointed members of the Supreme Court have outnumbered Democrat appointees… except the 2016 tie at 4-4 because of the GOP stealing Obama’s final appointment opportunity. For most of that time the imbalance was 7 Republican appointees to just 2 Democrat appointees. In 1992, there was an 8 to 1 imbalance!
But in all that time, the decisions rendered were often regarded by most citizens as tilting liberal.
Like the GOP, she wants to express those personal opinions by taking choice away from OTHER PEOPLE.
You don’t want to get an abortion? Fine, don’t get one. But don’t make it impossible for anyone else to get one. That’s the line between personal preference and a dictatorial police state.
You don’t want to rely on government assistance? Fine, don’t. But don’t make it impossible for anyone else who might need that assistance to have it available to them.
You don’t want to follow a particular religion? Fine, don’t. But don’t hinder the rights of people who do. (I’m looking at you Kim the asshole marriage clerk).
In the same way that my right to walk around randomly swinging my fists ends where your nose starts, your right to be a racist bigoted homophobe ends when you infringe on someone’s else right to … take advantage of a service or just go about their lives peacefully.
I’m not sure where this entire nation went off the rails, but this shouldn’t be all that hard to understand and live with. And yet, the right just can’t accept that other people want and get to do things they don’t agree with.
Barrett lied under while oath Tuesday. When questioned for a position on the Federal Bench in 2017 she answered then Senator Franken that she was aware that the group named the Alliance Defending Freedom attempts to criminalize homosexuality. Barrett was paid to speak to the group. Tuesday Senator Leahy asked the same question and Barrett denied knowing about it at all. It’s all on tape. Barrett lied while under oath.
See that tombstone way in the back….it’s been being denied/hidden for too long. The other issues are important but will pale in comparison to what’s coming.
