Sometimes its bad parenting but other times its the kid falling into a bad crowd. I knew a couple with four sons, three turned out great, but the youngest made a friend who was into pills in high school, he became abusive towards his parents. parents did everything they could, they moved him to another school, put him in therapy, for awhile things turned around for him but as soon as he graduated he left home and went back to his old friends and drugs. they offered to pay for rehab but he never went. he would break into their house and ended up in jail. it’s easy to judge a parent when you’ve never had to be in their shoes, i mean, after raising three older boys i am sure they never thought their youngest would become out of control.
You can eliminate a lot of the behavior problems by taking care of them at age two. Then when they’re teenagers you can afford to be more understanding and accommodating with their peculiarities
Never had kids, but I assure you my parents made it clear who was running the show very early on. Good thing they started the policy with my eldest sister, because they ended up having six kids.
For a lot of parent’s including me, this hits close to home, though my son at that age never stole our keys to the car to try to drive. I only have 2 now adult kids. Joan your mom skills not good.
My son is one of my heroes. Good Kid, classically trained Chef. On his first professional job he fell in with a crowd at the restaurant who did drugs, married one of them. They had two kids, one has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. His wife died at 27 from liver failure. He moved away with his kids, stopped work and became a full time dad, getting help for his special needs daughter. Eventually met a wonderful lady, between the two of them they have 4 kids and are doing great.
He made a terrible mistake and paid a heavy price, but has turned his life around and is now a devoted husband and dad to all the kids. Don’t enable, but also never give up. Miracles happen every day.
I taught school with a man that had 3 great kids, (and I’m not being sarcastic). One day he was fussing about junior high students and told n, “My children will never be like that!” (his oldest was about 8 or 9 at the time. I said. “oh yes they will be.” “Oh no they will not!” he replied pretty indignantly. Fast forward a few years, his 2 oldest were in junior high. One day I looked at him and simply said “I told you so.” He growled and told me to shut up. :)

What gets me are people who are smug like that and don’t even have kids. They have no idea.

Joan is obviously not aware that the problem child has arrived at an early age. There’s a river in Africa called De Nile.

Max has been out of control since the day we first met him.
