So what is the life lesson here – Look down the road and wait for a cement truck?

There’s nothing worthwhile on the other side, Cal. Take Dorothy’s advice: stay away from tornadoes that take you over the rainbow and across the street!

Remember to look the other way when you come visit.

“Look left, look right, look left again!” That’s what they taught us in kindergarten. I remember the teacher taking us out to cross the street on a bright fall morning. There was no traffic at all at that hour in that place, but she made us practice several times.

How DO kids survive to become teenagers, anyway? And for that matter, what in the WORLD protects teens from their parents’ often near-lethal ire?

And keep looking as you cross the road, at the road, not your phone……

The ounce of prevention argument.

Problem is that we are a reactive society instead of fostering a preventative culture. Hence the very slow acceptance of masks and the continuing divide.

This will be more evident within about two weeks after the forthcoming Thanksgiving gatherings by the nonbelievers.

How about “pace yourself?” Calvin’s right about none of knowing when the Big Magic 8-Ball comes up “I don’t think so” but we have to choose a course that gives us the best shot at a good long life.

Most people have a misconception of what a cement truck is. Just to clear up, a cement truck is any truck closed or flatbed, that is carrying bags of cement because cement without water is a dry powder. Those trucks with a rotating drum are called concrete mixer trucks. The mixing keeps the concrete from setting en route.

My motto: Never get out of the shower.

A guy I know from college was in a long-term and ultimately unsuccessful relationship. One day I heard him and his SO arguing about his refusal to wear a bike helmet while riding his bike.

His response was “If I get hit by a truck, the helmet won’t protect me; I’ll still be dead.” Her response was “But at least we could have an open casket wedding!!!”

Still the most on-point Freudian Slip I’ve heard live.

I did look, I seen the car was running, I went wide, so the driver could see me in his mirrors, he still backed over me, high rate of speed, no mirrors, no license, on the phone.

Living “for the moment” seems to be what most people are doing these days. Especially those failing to wear a mask in public.

On Saturday, I responded to the Roadrunner themed strip with some comments about Chuck Jones. I mentioned that I was a big Chuck Jones fan. The following day, I read the replies and saw that someone asked “How about Tex Avery?” I posted a reply but I don’t know whether anyone read it so I will make another reply.

Yes, I also enjoy Tex Avery’s cartoons. Chuck Jones and Bob Clampett both worked as animators under Tex Avery before becoming animation directors themselves. One of Jones’s early cartoons as a director was “Ghost Wanted” in which a little boy ghost applies for the post of apprentice to a big fat ghost who is voiced by Tex Avery in a cartoon directed by his former animator Chuck Jones. This is widely regarded as Jones acknowledging his debt to Tex Avery.

A combination of mottoes would be acceptable.

Can stuffed tigers run for public office? Sigh…

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions. Good or bad, we are the product of decisions. Try to make good ones.

Hobbs could teach a philosophy course.

I prefer to “Live IN the Moment”. But that also encompasses keeping an eye out for oncoming trucks on the road and extreme Weather conditions that I don’t want to have to deal with.

Most of my moments don’t involve cement trucks.

I often find that “appreciate the moment” works better for me. The other night I was taking out the trash and the near full moon was just spectacular. Like a spotlight in clear night sky. I probably stood there for a good 5 minutes just staring at it as wisps of clouds floated past around it getting illuminated and creating a glow in the night sky. I went back in the house and told my step daughter she needed to go out and see it. She paused her show, went out and was back in few minutes and said, “thanks! totally worth it.” I don’t live for those moments … but I grab them and appreciate them when they come.

Combine the two and you will have a good life…..

Hobbes is usually the smartest of the two.

I was laughing out loud the old fashioned way when I read Hobbes’ sensible remark. Play hard but pay attention.
