I’m so old that I remember when you had to rent your phone from the phone company (there was only one), it was black, it had a rotary dial, there were phone books, information was free, and only rich people had a second line (for the children). And my farmer grandparents had a party line.
When the power goes out, the landline will still work. Call 911 in an emergency, they automatically have your address whether you can talk or not. In spite of SPAM calls, there are reasons to have land lines….
We’ve had our landline number so long that it would be a nightmare to give it up. It’s used as the contact number or emergency number for so many companies, doctors, friends, etc. that we could never notify them all. I don’t know if we could switch it to one of our cell phones, but we’d have to give that cell number up if we did, and only one of us could answer the phone. Plus Nomorobo is really good for call screening. Another reason for the land line is that my wife and I can both be on the line when the kids, workmen, etc. call.

Used to have a land-line, 95% of the calls were a waste, now only have cells and getting back up to that 95% calls or texts being a waste
