That’s always the danger with petrol/gas station flowers. They weren’t dead when you bought them but they may well be when the lady gets them.
Next time give her a potted, Live, plant!

Karl needs to look into the Pro & Con of planting a Garden outside her house.
You never have this problem if you stick to black roses or orchids.
