I remember Georgia remarking in an interview that the biggest dustups in the Mega-Orb occur around the most high-stakes holidays—Thanksgiving and Christmas—because of the stress surrounding them. Those can’t even hold a candle to the emotions running high around this presidential election. I encourage us all to take extra care to think about the impact of our comments during this time. The most important thing to remember right now is that the core of our community is love. Love of cats, love of funny, love of each other. Post with love, read with love, reply with love.

I think the fort needs Snacks! My current favorites are nuts – peanuts, pistachios, sunflower, and (melt!) Candied Walnuts! Now if I could figure out a snack for my Finicky Felines………….

I used to keep a table cloth over my coffee table just for my Tazi-Kat. He loved his fort! Now that he’s gone, I use the extra space for storage of games, books, etc. I need another cat.

Oh the weather outside is frightful

But our fort is so delightful

And since that winds gonna blow, we

Hug our mows, hug our mows, hug our mow-mows

We don’t feel much like sleeping

And we’ve got fun books for reading

    So cozy and comfy now

Let it blow, let it blow, let winds blow

When we have to go night-night

How we’ll hate folding up our fleece

It’s such a warm and beauteous sight

All that’s missing are some robber meeces

    The day is slowly fading

And the cats enjoy our cradling

And as long as we love them so, we

Hug our mows! Hug our mows! Hug our mow-mows!

Despite living in a very cold area, we never had blanket or pillow forts growing up. I’m thinking I should rectify this, however belatedly.

On another note, that stuffed fox reminds me of Pepper. I wonder if it’s a beloved family toy handed down between generations and, if so, if it was the inspiration for the aforementioned character.

We lived in a tiny one bedroom apartment until I was ten. Privacy was at a premium. I had a blanket fort made from a card table with a blanket over it. Once, when I was mad at my mother for something, I turned it upside down and draped the blanket over the feet so I could scoot the top along the carpet like a raft while I was in it. I slowly crept up to her with this, sure she wouldn’t see it coming, and when I was close enough, bit her on the leg. Not hard. Probably not as hard as the spanking I got!

My parents and I took a long road trip in 2008 before I moved to Australia. One stop was in Kansas City, MO where most of the family lives. I had a ball making a sheet fort with my small cousins! Met so many cousin’s kids and their kids, it was awesome! That will always be a very special memory :)

Good morning all. I remember blanket forts and watching Mac & Alex make them was a joy. I really miss those days in a lot of ways. It would be almost impossible for me to crawl into a blanket fort anymore. With my arthritis, I don’t bend so well.

I want to congratulate Lady Bri on her book and I plan on reading it. Seven hundred pages in the first book of a trilogy is a huge endeavor. I also appreciate Marilynnbyerly warning that GoCommics does not fancy people advertising in the comments section. Believe me, I understand that. The last thing I want to do is read about some hemorrhoid cream while reading my comics pages. This is very ironic that this topic came up Saturday because yesterday I just got my ISBN number and Bar-Code for my book and I was really excited to share the news.

My book, Giblet & Belle, is progressing along several fronts. My Illustrator, Natalia, is finishing the scenes for the book. She has sent me Proofs for the front/back cover and spine, and several of the drawings for the interior. She is really bringing my vision to life and she is a wonderful person to be working with.

My Editor, Emily, will be getting the manuscript for the final edits late in December and I have been getting bids from Printers around the country. My plan is to self publish. The finished book will be about 40,000+ words at about 175 pages. A modest first book to be sure, but one I want to share with all of you.

I will figure out some way of getting word to you where you can see it and perhaps buy one if you wish. I have a lot more research to do to figure this out. This has been an adventure and incredible learning curve at my age. I appreciate all your encouragement.

An adolescent kitten found me a few weeks ago. My balcony door was open, and I heard a loud mewing. I looked out, and saw a kitten doing across the yard, straight toward my building – toward the apartment under me! When he heard me, he trotted faster. I hurried down to find him.

Such a sweet kitty! Grey, with stripes. He came right to me, I picked him up and he started purring very loudly (a vocal cat). Having recently lost my chihuahua, it was so nice to have a little furry one to cuddle for a bit! And he was very grateful, hadn’t eaten in maybe a day or two, so wolfed the food we gave him down.

As sweet as he is, I can only have one pet, and I realized I really need another dog (if only because it forces me to exercise). So I’m happy to say, after being unable to find his home, he is now happily residing with a friend who has several other cats! He needed some playmates for sure, so this is ideal. And, I can see him sometimes. I know he’s in his right place! He came to me for help finding it; I was happy to help. And, it helped get me out of my funk after losing my beloved pup.

I went back looking for last year’s toy pile after Christmas hoping to see if the doll was visible. It wasn’t. But on my route to finding it, I came across the matching pajamas adventure where Lupin was laying out rules for Goldie, and the first one was that the coffee table is off limits. They’ve come such a long way in almost a year.

My indoor blanket fort was under the kitchen table. I also had an outdoor blanket fort. The bushes on either side of the front porch were surrounded by circles of decorative fence wire but taller than the edger fences you can buy now. My best friend and I would lift them off the bushes and cover them with old sheets.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Fellow Cats, it is the time of the year when the days grow short and the air grows cooler. I have also noticed an abundance of blankets appearing. How do you think we should put these blankets to use?

Lupinium: This has been a time of stress for many. Let’s create many forts for protection.

Elvis-Anum: Protection from what? A blanket is not a walled castle. Not that we ever had them in Egypt.

Lupinium: But they have magical properties that offer projection from fears and anxieties. Like this all white blanket right here.

Puckmosis: That’s odd. Wasn’t Lupinium here just a minute ago?

Thomios: But there must be something else. That’s why I’ve brought hot cacao that is alright for cats.

Elvis-Anum: But is it safe? I need to try this out.

Beatrixia: What do you think, Elvis-A? Is it safe/

    Elvix-Anum: Zzzzzzz….

The Queen: It is decided. Blankets for all the realm! Everyone be of good cheer!

The Cats: Hip, Hip, Meow! Hip, Hip, Meow! Hip, Hip, Meow!

    Today is:

X-Ray Day: This is the day Herr Doktor Proffessor Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen accidentally discovered x-rays, thus allowing anyone to see through anyone else, and garnering him both a Nobel prize and a lifetime X rating.

Remember: A friend is someone who sees through you, but still enjoys the show.

International Tongue-Twister Day: Oral macrame, anyone?

Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day: This is a day to really get into fusion cooking …

Aid and Abet Punsters Day: Paronomasiacs of the world, today is hours! And yes, the rest of you are doomed. Puns seem to be inherent in the human species, being found in Sumerian cuneiform and both Egyptian and Mayan hieroglyphics. I would not be surprised if someone found a pun in Cro Magnon cave paintings.

I believe I have inadvertently made a shawl-fort for my elderly princess, Angel. She’s 16 years old, with kidney disease, and not feeling terribly well (she hid her disease too long, both from her behavior and her blood work). So—she hasn’t been dealing with the cooler weather well. She also has never liked enclosed cat beds, either.

I put one of the beds with a heat-reflecting pad upstairs in my office where I work, and draped a shawl over it using the neighboring cat steps to a shelf. This means the shawl is a little above the bed, rather than close. Well, it’s just enough to help retain heat without being something she’ll sit on wrong. She loves it.

Right now it’s the return of Indian Summer here. This after having it snow in the wee morning hours of Tuesday. We have so far had a high of 81F here (it’s back down to 78F at 2:49 as I type this), but the afternoon is not yet over. Just what I needed, I removd the fan from the window in my bedroom and closed it and now the temps are back up. Ugh.

My brother and I used to make blanket forts. We also made mini-dome inflatables using a bed sheet, several books and a forced-air heat register in the living room. That was really toasty. I do not think Mom appreciated us hogging half the heat for the living room. She always felt cold while we were running around in T Shirts.

I always made sure that my kids had places where they could go to hide. The most popular was a small (3ft. by 3ft.) pop-up tent with a floor. My youngest would sleep in it every chance she got. For outside, they had 2 of the Little Tykes play houses. Those things are TOUGH! A tree fell on one and didn’t do more than a few superficial scratches.
