I wonder if Liz is making this with macaroni and adding the cheese or if she’s making what we call in Canada Kraft dinner. (which is really only Kraft macaroni & cheese in the states).

The last time I made dinner for the whole family was when I was 16. I had the day off (I was going to school and worked full-time weekday evenings) and decided to get a beef roast and make a REAL dinner. When my mother got home from work, all she could say was that she was looking forward to take-out fried chicken and fries, and whined about it for the whole evening. MY DAD was the only one to make any appreciative noises, as roast beef was his favourite meal. As you might guess, I never went to the trouble and expense again. Let them eat take-out if that’s all they want. :P. (I worked at McDonald’s, so take-out was the last thing I wanted on my day off.)

Find a girlfriend who likes to cook, supply all the ingredients, utensils and praised her cooking, it worked for me.

Macaroni and cheese is the all-purpose substitute.

It’s really unfair that Michael doesn’t have to share equal duties with Elizabeth. No reason he can’t handle it every other weekday.

Thankfully it is just a comic strip and not real life.

It is never a good idea to bother the cook. She knows exactly where she put the extra hot sauce, or spun glass.

We are immensely proud of our grandson, Alex, who is staying with us for a while. He is finding freedom and a whole new world in cooking. We have encouraged it, of course, pointing out that not only will he (and his loved ones with him) benefit every day from his abilities, he can always eat better tasting, more healthy food that he makes himself for a fraction of the price of what it costs prepared. If he wants something spicy, it is increasingly within his command. A year ago he was a moody, sullen 12 year old. Today he is a moody, happy 13 year old. We take our victories where we find them!

By the time I was Michael’s age, I had learned the basics of cooking – and enjoyed it.

Both my parents worked, so Mom would often either prep dinner ahead of time or leave instructions for me to get everything ready and in the oven for her.

Don’t ya just love (hate) those that never volunteer to do ANYthing, but will constantly tell YOU what you should do?

That casserole is not big enough for four people.

I’m pretty sure I was not allowed to use our old, gas stove to cook anything when I was 10, nor did I want to. I know I wasn’t capable to do a whole meal for four people, by myself, with no supervision.

I like hot dogs in my mac & cheese but my husband don’t. I live without them :(.

How much more upset would Elizabeth be if she knew Michael faked getting home after she did?

I have been the main cook in all my relationships since high school. That’s about 55 years.
