I always hated outdoor cookouts. I’m with you there Petey.

Who needs outdoor dining, complete with heat, bugs and lawn clippings? I’ll be inside, in air-conditioned, bug-free comfort!

I was at a cookout at my sister and brother-in-law’s last night. A gnat flew in my eye. It is still red and irritated this morning (my eye, not the gnat). Just too much fun. I hate cookouts.

I have had this combo work before for keeping bugs off-take 100mg B1 vitamin, at the same time you take a regular B vitamin complex. The trick is to take it at the same time of day, once each 24 hours. Start at noon, stick to noon.

There’s a reason civilized man moved indoors — outdoors is for cavemen!

Some friends of my sister used to hold an annual event, which included an outdoor welcoming meal. The traditional dish was Junebug Chili, which was homemade chili with peanuts in it. The story (which was presented to me as true, although I don’t know if I believe it) was that, one year, a number of junebugs got into the chili pot, and since they (the hosts) couldn’t be sure if they fished ’em all out, they stirred a bag of peanuts into it as camouflage. If you bit into something crunchy, you could at least figure that it was probably a peanut…

If you don’t mind the smell of vinegar, cider vinegar works quite well on keeping bugs away if you rub it on your skin.

shytimes, there’s nothing stopping you; just add peanuts to chili. If you want to share its origin story, or try to pass it off as junebugs, that’s up to your personal judgment (and your reading of your guests’ senses of humor)…

fritzoid, love the creativity! A tad scary, though, if one doesn’t like eating bugs.

I keep my BBQ because sons may come by and want to cook on it. I love if they have caught fresh fish (can’t trust any in local supermarkets) or just want to do burgers or dogs. For myself, I only cook indoors and avoid being outdoors (as all bugs bite me-I must try Pibfan’s vitamin fix!)
