I took Civics in high school and it didn’t touch on half the things that went on in our government on a “real” basis, and this “Patriotic History” sounds like a doctored version of what I was taught so it would be worse than useless!
I’ve seen a couple of offerings that claim to teach you how to recognize when a post is or isn’t legit. It’s a little tricky, but feasible to get it mostly right.
OT: My wife and I were eating dinner on our back porch when we heard the breaking news on TV that Justice Ginsburg had died. Several minutes later one of our neighbors set off fireworks to celebrate her death.
Nov 3: White men in MAGA hats armed with AR-15 rifles show up outside polling places to “Maintain the integrity of the elections and assure that voter fraud does not happen.” Their job is to assure that only the “right” people vote.
Nov 4: Biden wins the election. Trump claims fake news and fraud.
Nov 5: Trump declares martial law citing the Covid-19 pandemic as the cause. Now you know why he has done everything in his power to promote the disease. A national curfew is put into effect and police have the power to detain anyone they want indefinitely without charges or trial.
Nov 6: Trump shuts down all news networks except One America Network and FOX. FOX is told that they will be allowed to continue broadcasting only if they “behave themselves.”
Nov 7: Barr arrests opposition party leaders and selected journalists for sedition.
Nov 8: Trump nullifies the Constitution and declares himself dictator for life. He disbands both houses of Congress and arrests any legislator who complains.
Nov 9: Trump orders that his likeness be carved into Mount Rushmore and that the Statue of Liberty be torn down and replaced with one of himself.
Nov 10: Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade and declares Obamacare unconstitutional.
Nov 11: Martial law continues under a military coup who claim it will remain in effect Inauguration Day.
“Creative minds have always been known to survive any kind of bad training” – Anna Freud. The answer then is to teach “critical thinking” skills, so that independent thought and win/win reigns.
But we currently have people, on both the left and the right, that don’t want anyone questioning their conclusions. Further, news reports show that textbook manufacturers cater the contents of their books to local requirements; so while two kids can have a book with the same exact title, the kid in CA has a book with the subjects worded one way, and the kid in TX has it worded another way.
I took 3 semesters of Texas history- possible due to moving districts, taking it as an elective, and never, until I studied history independently had a clue that the Alamo was primarily fought because the Mexican government outlawed slavery and the Texans fought a war to preserve it. The victors get to write the history, so the good guys always win.

Age appropriate history. We should teach 9 year olds that John Hancock boldly signed the Declaration of Independence. It should probably wait until high school to say Hancock also paid Sam Adams and other drunks to destroy British tea because the British were charging less than Hancock was and cutting into his profits.
“Patriotic History” screams indoctrination, fascism, and propaganda so loudly… that it amazes me that there isn’t more backlash against this.
Seriously, this isn’t just a “sigh and roll your eyes” moment, this is how authoritarian police state dictatorships are born. It isn’t even a “left vs right” thing. Hitler (fascist) used this tactic, Stalin (communist) used this tactic, monarchs (feudalism) used this tactic. And every time it was bad for the people.
Trump said that he wants 5 billion from the Tik Tok deal to fund his patriotic history project. So the president of the United States wants to extort a corporation to produce right wing propaganda? Would the right wing propaganda emphasize that socialism was an evil where the government forces private enterprise to do their bidding?
Most totalitarian want to re-write the history books to put themselves in a better light, but Trump doesn’t need 5 billion dollars for this. He just needs to reprint “The Political InCorrect Guide to American History” with an Addendum stating that Trump was the Greatest President ever.
Ever notice how your civics and related class teachers were the most radical? In junior high we had civics class. We read “Animal Farm” and “Lord of the Flies” and listened to our teachers interpretation of them. My first high school we watched a movie on the Chicago 7. The high school I went my last two years we finally had a class that taught government without the political leaning to the left. Finally learned how congress and government are supposed to work.

Forced hysterectomy, doctored history…America emerging as a Fascist regime.
And over 200,000 preventable deaths.
I think I’m going to write a novel about it called “Grave New World”.
