I’m glad this happened, but it was not a peace treaty because these countries have never been at war. There will not be peace in the middle east until Israel stops annexing land and bulldozing Palestinian villages to make way for Jewish settlements.
The “peace treaty” will allow the U.S. MIC to sell F-35 fighter jets (that Trump thinks are literally invisible) and other weapons to UAE just like they already sell to Israel.
Nobody cares about the treaty. Americans are too distracted by pandemic, economy, jobs, protests, wildfires. I concede that Trump deserves kudos for not sabotaging the whole thing through impulsive statements and actions. It is sad that him acting like a mature adult is an accomplishment requiring praise. But unless he gets his dopamine hit from receiving lavish attention for doing the minimal requirements for being an adult, he won’t repeat the behavior. So we better praise him for it.
I think this is called something like “exaggeration for effect” and I tolerate it in political cartoons when the exaggeration is… well, “cartoonish”; or when it’s done well, so you have to kind of think a bit. See also Ramirez’ dictum about what cartoons are for, in his “about” section.
But when Payne does it, it comes across more like “lying sophomorically” because it’s neither thought provoking nor true. Though it is “cartoonish” in the sense that it never much resembles reality.
Henry, no matter what all the other comments say…I appreciate your efforts to be they guy in the Jack Ohman ’toon, to continue pushing Ken Catalino toward voting for Biden, and to make Clay Bennett look like he can see the future. Leaning into the stereotypes the way you do makes us all feel better about leaving these messages.
Do you really think that the US got UAE to change their mind about “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”? UAE hasn’t been hostile towards Israel in any meaningful way that I think most UAE citizens were surprised that a deal needed to be announced

Stupid acts are still foolish when simple precautions save lives.

@OldCoal - Payne is definitely not “too smart” - Maybe, willfully ignorant….

Oh, it will be a region game-changer, but not in a good way.
Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised that the reality-avoidant Republicans think hitting a hornet’s nest with a baseball bat somehow equals “peace”.

The Harry Potter books and Lord of the Rings contain less fantasy than Henry Payne’s cartoons.
