Well, yeah, I guess. Seems like the wrong end to, to me. But I do absolutely agree that calling a little girl “cute” by default shuts off a lot of opportunities to call her smart, athletic, forceful, etc.
I’m with Gorrell on this one, as much as it pains me to say it. The movie is offensive on many levels, and I don’t think that decrying sexploitation of children while at the same time showing scene after scene of said sexploitation was the best way to make the point. And for the director and Netflix to try to explain it away as a “coming of age” film is just gross and negates any attempt at virtue-signaling. I don’t know what they were thinking with this film.
without the line at the bottom, you’d have no idea what this was referencing.
i get the ‘sex’ kinda rhymes with ‘net’ but ‘sex’ ≠ ‘pedophilia’. of course, then you’d have to think of a cartoon idea that took more effort than downloading the Netflix font.
if you’re angry about this movie, wait till you hear about the children separated from their parents being held in concentration camps.
A little false outrage here me thinks.. show me a pageant with young girls that are not dressed to be “cute”.. with much emphasis on adult sexuality. JonBenét Ramsey comes to mind as a prime example of little girls abused by parents dressing them up.
The irony is the outrage initially took root in Texas and spread in the South, which is famous for exactly the kind of sexualized, objectification of of extremely young girls on the “pageant circuit” that this film questions.
Naturally, Gorrell regurgitates talking points instead of researching what the show is actually about. But then, I bet his subscription to Skinimax has never run out.

Is there a specific thing Gorrell is referring to?

No, Bob, you’re confusing a legitimate film with “Toddlers and Tiaras”. Now, that was aimed at a very niche market.

Encouraging pedophiles by telling people to vote for them is OKAY, though, right Gorrell?
Just like YOUR GUY does!

Having been a librarian, school and college, I found that none, none, of those wanting to ban a particular book had read it.

I don’t think pedophiles need encouragement, they prey regardless. And I know nothing about this movie.
