Oh stop please. This is either willful stupidity, or Trumpian level of cynical indifference to facts, either way it’s propaganda in the service of re-electing the most destructive administration ever.

Here, in a valley of the California Sonoran desert, we sailed right through a heat wave that saw the temperature in my shaded car port hit 117 degrees, helped in no small part by renewable energy sources like the wind turbine farms to the east of us.

So climate change which Trump called a “Chinese Hoax” isn’t the problem, but policies to reduce climate change are? It was 120 degrees in Los Angeles last week.

It amuses me that on GoComics, the Ramirez comic is just above the Reality Check comic (sometimes), totally appropriate.

The wildfires in California are so bad because of the climate crisis which can be alleviated by switching to green energy.

This is despicable Ramirez. You are attempting to politicize and environmental and human disaster in one of the states of this union in an attempt to make the party that you worship look good. It is the responsibility of the party worship that we are in this climate mess. It is obvious that you worship the party of blame, not the party of can-do.

Totally partisan Trump hates California because they voted blue and is refusing aid to them.

Since covid has ravaged California’s prisons, they are lacking prison labor to fight the fires, another fine gift from our republican admin.

Watch how FEMA responds to the damage in the Left Coast. The irony, most of the rural areas burned are Trump country. He’ll eat his own voters to own the libs.

I live in California and have every day of my 60 years. How many of You currently live in areas of Cali. that are burning or have burnt ? I haven’t seen anything like this. My Wife is heading to a Doctor right now with a ear infection I think was caused by the smoke & heat. We are in deep kimchi until we get rain with power outages, smoke and fire and riots. The election should be interesting with 40 million people hanging on by a hair. If I believed in it I would ask for prayer.

For the last 20-30 years more and more land management experts have been casting doubt on the century old practice of trying to extinguish every fire. Wildfires are a part of nature. A part of the cycle of renewal. After the fire passes growth explodes and the land recovers.

When we extinguish the fires we leave the fuel for future fires in place, with more and more accumulating every year. In addition, many areas of California are subject to environmental rules that prohibit the removal of undergrowth and deadwood. Usually to protect a specific species.

Most of the areas currently burning have not seen a fire for 50, 60, even 70 years. So when they burn, they burn hot and hard.

We need to change our basic strategy on fires. It will be ugly for a while until nature restores its own balance. We can help it along with a more aggressive use of small controlled burns spread across a wide area. Those smaller burned areas act as natural firebreaks, limiting the size and number of these huge fires.

The best thing we can do for the environment, long term, is to let them burn. And in the future, take a much more pro-active stance instead of reactive. Allow land owners to clear the surface near residences and other buildings.

Of course we need to keep restrictions in place on when and where you can light a fire. Keep up the public education efforts to reduce the human stupidity. And yes, fight the fires that threaten occupied areas to reduce loss of life and property. Remember, human caused fires are not natural, but in many cases they spread as they do because we extinguished the local natural fires that would have reduced the available fuel.
