Incredibly (or, it seems so to me), that device hasn’t changed much since whenever this strip originally ran. About 20 years ago, I had a pinched nerve that caused problems every year or so. I had to use that torture device many times over a few years, and, excepting the weight, looked exactly like that. I suspect that putting the ten pound sandbag there was more clear to strip readers than the water bag filled to the right measurements that I used.

I’ve had to do that very same thing, but not for that length of time. The downside to it is my jaw forced closed too tightly.
