Well, I will be the first to say, I’ll be glad to be wrong!

(My prediction that we were about to have a Jealous Gunther in full “anger and mommy issues”)

Gunther has competition in the Kitchen?

If it takes an HOUR on the stove, it’s not “easy veggie soup”.

Is the storyline going back to TJ?

Campbell’s Vegetable Soup. I guess Evans is back to product placement. I wonder how much he gets paid for this.

I guess Les could not wait 60 minutes so he opted for a can of Campbells in the nuke! Looks like Bets can cook indeed and Gunnie takes a break from his studies as he probably never smelled anything good come out of the kitchen before.

Gun(ther) if you don’t put a ring on that you are a fool, boy.

We’ll see how this all turns out on Monday… or not!

Campbell’ Condensed Soup with Vegetables -Made with Beef Stock! The Vegetarian Vegetable version is tastier.

Homemade soup is always good. Especially with either dumplings or toutons. And if Bets ever learns how to cook those? Well, I guess I’ll be paying a little visit to The Gulag soon…. ;-)

Excuse me, Bets. Proper pronoun is WE’RE making soup.

Doesn’t vegetable soup still require some sort of stock? If you just put veggies in water all you get is boiled veggies — or am I wrong?

Will there be a blind taste test?

Took Gunther to notice the pungent aroma of chopped onions. And from the lack of an EMT crew I assume that no fingers were lost in the chopping of the vegetables. A miracle right there.

Now can we please, please, please start up a new story next week? One with car chases and explosions and and maybe an alien invasion to boot and not another sanctimonious lecture on the goodness of whatever/

Y’know Les, it could be said that food made the slow way with fresh ingredients just tastes better than canned, quick heated food. :/

Proud of you Bets! You may not know how to cook but you’re still giving it the good ol’ college try (Pun partially intended). Les is pulling the classic bachelor cooking and that will come back to bite him in the long run.

Maybe I’m in the minority here but is anyone else wanting some “growth” in the strip? Like actual growth in the characters.

Okay so Bets can cook, great but in a week or two, it will be forgotten.

Hope she adds some kind of stock. Water and boiled veggies tastes just like that – water and boiled veggies. Not very tasty. You need stock.

He’s been here the whole time…?

I must have missed a panel. The last time I checked Bets and Les were creating a savory soup together. How did Les go from that storyline to heating up a can of Campbell’s soup in the microwave. Can soup is ok in a pinch but nothing beats homemade soup.

I can see Bets and Gunther in their Star Trek uniforms cooking in the kitchen. Reminds me of an interview with William Shatner I read many years ago. It seems that during the filming of “Star Trek Generations”, William Shatner and Patrick Stewart were sitting next to each other on a flight, and the subject of cooking came up. It seems that they both have an interest in cooking, and they were joking that if the Star Trek franchise failed, they could start up a cooking show called “Two Captain’s Kitchen”.

Closest this comic will ever be to a Warhol.

Cook it for an hour, and they’ll have vegetable mush.

I would wait the hour for the homemade soup. But I would eat some salad in the meantime.

MMM! Not hilarious disasters (for now) and Bets seems to have fun cooking. Gunther will be happy to discover that his girlfriend is able to cook. Another passion in common♡.

Nothing, just someone doesn’t enjoy food that has not been processed with a Dozen chemicals.

Preparing meals so that everything is ready at the same time can be an art…

I would think this was product placement, except that this is doing Campbell’s no favors.

Bets must be pretty darn smart. Unlike Bernice and Gunther who study all the time, you never see her studying. Yet she breezed through that business class while Tiffany flunked out.

Even so, it was weird for Gun, allegedly the second smartest student in the strip, to lock himself the bedroom to study while his girlfriend came over to visit. But then again, that’s Gun.

Every time I open a can of soup, I wind up adding spices. It’s just not very good, and those are the better brands, not regular Campbell’s.

Looks like Lee gave up and couldn’t handle the work involved in making soup!!

Nothing to see here, folks. Break it up.

Betts seems pretty comfortable in Guuuuuunther and Les’s kitchen. Must spend a lot of time there (probably getting Gunther’s creations). Has her dorm closed, and, now Gunther has less room his closet, and, dresser?

Wouldn’t surprise me if Bets was humming the blues while cooking.

when i make soup at home it actually gets better if it sits for a day. You really see it in the french onion. ok day one but by day 3 there is some real subtle stuff that you didn’t get at first.

Looks like beginner’s luck is working for Bets, though I wouldn’t have bet on it.

Really bothered by the product commercials that have become so prevalent here. Why do you have to ruin the comic strip with commercials? You could have just put “canned soup” on the label. I guess that proves you are getting kickbacks.

Bets rises to the challenge putting energy into the task while Les drops by the wayside….two different souls. This arc brings back memories of the blended households of my college days.

Will Gun(ugh!) rave over Bets’ culinary skills Monday. Or will be suggest she add Herbes de Provence.

We will soon see who made the best tasting meal. I predict that Les Will soon become a convert to freshly made vegetable soup! If he tries it that is.

Ah! The aroma of homemade soup cooking got to him! Bets sweating over the hot stove while Les’s “Campbels’” veggie soup gets nuked. Will they have a taste test? ;-) Bets does look happy. Ah, the feeling of accomplishment! ;-D

How long has it been since Gunther last had a homemade meal made by someone else?

These comic strips are all being written for product endorsements G&K already have lined up. That’s why the story lines are so confusing – but they all end up with a commercial. Like this last one – starts with TJ discussing high end kitchen appliances then all of a sudden Dez shows up out of the blue with vegetables and ends up with (ta-da!) canned soup. They do try to keep the high ground by vaguely hinting that home made is better, but the commercial is still there.

The two main reasons I rarely cook are the time it takes to do the prep + cooking and the equal amount of time it takes to clean up afterwards which taken altogether is 10 to 20x longer than it takes me to eat.

Is Bets sweating in her soup?

Wow! Time to get real, folks! These are comics, not reality. yes, one needs some sort of vegetable broth although I’ve made many soups with water and bullion or water and certain seasonings. Since she was following a recipe and Gunther lives there we can assume there would be something appropriate available. Also, vegetable soup from scratch should take 15 to 30 minutes, not 60. Gunther’s study position looks very uncomfortable. I couldn’t study or read like that. Doesn’t he have a desk?

If it weren’t for this living arrangement being devised by Les’s uncle, I’d say Gunther has the wrong roommate.

Well, now… Maybe Bets isn’t as domestically-challenged as I thought.

In my much traveled lifetime I have never seen a grown man sitting cross legged on a bed while using a laptop, nor a young Black woman that did not take pride in home cooked Soul food.

So, he was working on the computer in his room. That’s why he hadn’t come out yet. So Bets is a better cook than she let on the other day. Got the soup smelling good and all. I’ll take odds that they make a taste comparison, homemade vs canned to see which is best.

We know that Bets and Gunther have a youthful romance. Nothing torrid, just a little kiss or a little cuddle. I think that it is no pressure comfortable. Something like Knute and Crystal, but they never showed any public displays of affection. In private? I wonder. They were/are good together and fun to watch, like Sonny and Cher in the early days.

An Hour. Very few veggies take that long to cook.

I suspect she skipped the parts of the Recipe that told her to Wait 10 minutes, then add the next set of Ingredients, so that everything finishes cooking at the same time.

Yes, the Two Major Schools of Cooking: 1) it’s gotta be homemade from scratch ’cause nothing is better! 2) Outta a can or box, ready in minutes, minimal effort and clean-up involved: what could be better (especially for the single guy)?

Speaking as a person who does all her cooking via microwave, the homemade will still be much better.

So I’m sure we all hope Monday we will watch the tasting of the soup. But will Gunther be saying, ‘I’ll have what he’s having’ or will Bet’s soup be a winner?

Bets is being Bets.
