I urge all of you who are pissed off at the way the Dems handled Bernie this year or 4 before to think about the alternative: FOUR MORE YEARS. Is that something you are willing to do to your country?
Second thought: Now is NOT the time to fix the Dems. But starting November 4th, we have about 2 or three years to do something to make it better. Will you join me in the effort?
You have one thing right Mr. Rall. It is either them or the Rump. The hard fact of the matter is a non vote or a vote for anyone else is in the Rump’s favor. Your attempt to encourage people to sit this one out is showing that you are encouraging votes for the Rump. Just say it!
Dysfunction…………me regularly noticing the moderate Dems, fighting Theodore’s relentless drumbeat of soreassedness……………anyone wanted to add to this with a consistent response to me lame observations?:
The haughty ‘purity’ of independents and far left adherents is really quite no different from the ‘purity’ of right wing Christo-nuts. Political outcomes are the result of the vector forces of various groups. It’s not only condemnable to sit out the election, it’s stupid to forgo that vector force opportunity.
Some thoughts:1. The DNC did not “kill” Bernie. Bernie didn’t get enough votes to win the primaries.2. The base of the Democratic Party is not the left. The left are generally not members of the Democratic Party. (Like Bernie Sanders!) The Democratic base is the center-left.3. The Biden campaign did “throw them a bone”. (Not the DNC. The DNC has very little actual power, outside of leftist conspiracies.) Biden has adopted a lot of policies from Bernie and the left in his platform, as did Hillary Clinton. Bernie has enthusiastically endorsed Biden, as he did Hillary, and he has campaigned for both of them. Somehow adopting Bernie’s policies and getting Bernie’s support isn’t enough for people like Ted. 4. Ted has made it clear that he won’t vote for Biden under any circumstances. So why should Biden bend over backwards to get the support of purity voters who would never vote for him?
Sander is not a member of the Democratic Party and never has been. He has always been a Socialist. He claims to be a “democratic” (lower case) Socialist yet on his honeymoon he did not go to a “democratic” socialist country; he went to the Union of SOVIET Socialist Republic where he was filmed giving an interview that was non-critical of the USSR under the Hammer and Sickle flag-all trump would have had to do is run that image and win 45 states.
After promising to work to get Clinton elected, Sanders did the minimum he could, his base stayed home in 2016 and gave us tRump. I don’t doubt Sanders will do it again. Bernie is as big a liar as tRump, just the other side of the coin.
One aspect of Rall’s obsession that is often overlooked, is that some of us aren’t that crazy over Bernie either. This idea that Sanders was cheated out of victory is pompous assumption. And the repetition is getting pathetic. You don’t like the democrats? Fine, form your own party. Rall has had 4 years to do something, but all he does is talk. The truth is that to build a party into an actual power takes a great deal of effort. Rall and his followers probably can’t do it because they are dilatants at heart. So fine, stay home and snub Biden. Enjoy Trump.
I choose to have hope, that most Democrats and Independent swing voters will vote for Biden/Harris in November. As a left of center moderate, last time I checked there were more moderates than liberals or conservatives. And that most people think four more years of Trump is pretty scary s**t! Ted, you do elections with the nominee you have, not the nominee you wish you have.
Also, the DNC didn’t “choose” Biden. The voters chose Biden over Bernie, just like they chose Clinton over Bernie. And I’ve been a Bernie supporter since 2015. Most Democrats prefer Biden, and it’s better if we just face that truth.
Secondly, I don’t think any true Leftist will snub these elections, not after what happened these past four years.
Some of the commenters criticizing Rall should be ashamed of yourselves. Childish name calling and unfounded accusations do nothing to make your arguments convincing. If you hate the Orange Buffoon and the Greedy Old Pricks so much why are you acting like them?
You do realize that Biden has been working WITH Bernie? Even Bernie thinks you’re an idiot if you don’t vote for Biden. But if you’re so freaking upset that enough progress isn’t being made, why don’t you focus on the obstacles in the Senate? So you hate the Dems – tell us, which are your favorite Supreme Court Justices? Do you want another Ginsberg or another Kavanaugh? Do you think Gore would have done more about climate change than Dubya? Do you think LGBT people could marry each other if McCain or Romney had been in charge? If the Dems are so far right, why is Trump working so hard to undo everything that occurred between January 2009 and 2017? Get a grip on reality.
Having a moderate like Biden is what is making me willing to vote for the Democratic ticket this year. If it had been Sanders on the ticket, I would have felt like Germany in 1919 and voted third party. Sorry you hard lefties aren’t getting your way, but there’s a whole spectrum of political opinion that needs to be brought together, not just you. There’s a limit to how far left I’m willing to go.
The DNC didn’t “kill” Bernie. He was crushed in the primaries. I guess Trump isn’t the only one who lies, doesn’t understand how democracy works and throws public tantrums when he doesn’t get his way.
Ted is simply pointing out a very real fear within the DNC and the party in general. The Bernie Bros make up a small but significant percentage of the party. They perceive, right or wrong, that their man has been abused and marginalized by the DNC.
The 2016 election produced substantial evidence of back room actions that MIGHT have cost Bernie the nomination. There are a substantial number of Sanders supporters who believe that the DNC interference DID tilt the nomination. Doesn’t matter if it is true, just that they believe it is true.
Fast forward. Bernie had to contend with competition from Warren. There were the accusations against the IDP and DNC of sandbagging the Iowa caucus. After a week of Buttigieg (remember him) doing a victory dance it was finally revealed that Sanders won. At which point the DNC Chair promptly called for a re-canvas, effectively nullifying the results.
Cut to the chase. The DNC allowed Sanders to run in 2016 and 2020, despite him never being a party member in spirit or fact. When he came out strong the party big wigs panicked, both times, and started pulling strings behind the scenes. AND THEY GOT CAUGHT.
Some Sanders supporters believe, right or wrong, that if Biden wins they will be marginalized. That Joe will swing right towards the center and walk away from their dreams and goals. The DNC fears that some of those Sanders voters will stay home. Just like they did in 2016.
Right now the DNC is looking at a small but meaningful defection of black and Hispanic voters to the Trump side. They MUST capture the Sanders voters to have any chance of victory.
Some of the comments here towards Ted are pretty nasty. You better keep in mind that Ted speaks the thoughts of a healthy chunk of people you desperately need to win. I suggest you try to woo them instead of alienating them.

Maybe Rall is pushing for the election outcome hypothesized in this perspective by Rosa Parks reporting a gaming session to model outcomes.
