Except for emergency repairs, we’ve always gotten at least a day’s notice of utility work. They can’t just shut power down, think of the folks with medical needs like power for supplemental oxygen or even powered lift chairs. They need time to charge backup batteries, etc.
In the ’80s, I worked for Group W Cable in SoCal. They were building new systems and everyone hated retirement homes, because there would be a dozen people watching them work and making certain every flower and blade of grass was put back in the right place. No smartphones, so no evidence and everyone had a different opinion.
I know why mom Evie get upset age 65 she is retired and has her shows to watch. I wondered her age, meaning Val and Joan are more younger, I am almost age 65 in 3 more months. No power for hour seems long yet short time, Evie can also get out of the house.
I think I’d rather have it off for several hours and be told in advance that it was going to happen than like in our area where it blinks off and back on several times a week, some times once or twice a day. Then everything has to be either turned back on or reprogrammed if it comes back on by itself. And if I happen to be using my bread machine, its all over.

Those skills aren’t genetic, but they might as well be: Daughters learn them at their mother’s knee.

OK, but the work needs to be done and the workers don’t really need the extra pressure.

What timing! Thanks to a nasty microburst, my area was without power Wed-Sat.
