But do you absolutely have to fulfill our expectations?

This 53-year old understands the current crop of Republican politicians are a bunch of corporatist liars. Social Security can easily be fixed by simply lifting the income cap on the tax.

And we wouldn’t be in nearly the trouble we are now if:

The Republicans hadn’t done the Iraq war off the books.

We scaled our military back to something considerably more reasonable. (Remember, we spend as much on our military as the rest of the world combined.)

We taxed the wealthy at a higher marginal rate.

So, Boehner is just projecting his expectations on a whole lot of people who actually have a very different vision of the future, what is necessary and what is fair.

This 51-year-old has known since her twenties that she shouldn’t count on these programs; I don’t know why everyone seems so shocked now. I’m glad that a major figure has said it out loud.

sorry, the money ain’t there, and that’s the way it is. Get over it. Whether the government takes over, or you let it ride, it is still going to get rationed, so what. I can tell you I’m not counting on a nickle from these lying ba$tard$

It’s true - “the money ain’t there” - it’s in the coffers of Goldman-Sachs and their partners in crime.

^^Hopefully you don’t have cancer in your family tree. Or heart attack, stroke, diabeties, freak accidents, car accidents, rare diseases, parasites, or anything life throws at you so you could live to be a hundred and not need medical attention.

I have known for quite some time that the R plan for people like me to retire or have medical care is: 1) A handgun 2) A single bullet

I’m 62. I would gladly give up my little SS check to go back to being 20, or even 50, again. I’d clean up!

So if I am not going to get full medicare, medicaid or social security, can I stop paying the full amount?

It’s all well and good for Rethuglicans to say we need to be saving money on our own to cover the money that they stole to pay for Iraq, but if they are still taking money from my paycheck that I will now not ever see in benefits then where is my savings supposed to come from? And for those who keep saying if you work harder you will earn more, I say I work plenty hard and have a graduate degree, so you can kiss my middle class tax paying heiney and stop giving million/billionaires a free pass.

I can’t believe some of these comments. If I were to run your car through the crusher, would you accept it’s flattened condition as proof that the automobile just can’t work? If, rather than trying to repeal, defund and cut back our social net, we spent some time and effort to fix them, there wouldn’t be a problem. We’ve let the people who want to end our social programs control the dialog and the money. Stop putting foxes in charge of the henhouse and then whining about problems in the henhouse.

“Isn’t Obamacare supposed to solve all of our medical concerns.”

It could have if the Single-Payer system hadn’t been killed off. We could have abolished Medicare and Medicaid entirely and perhaps even removed inefficient insurance companies from wasting our money.

I’ve been receiving SS and Medicare for 11 years. The only change I’ve seen since Obama was elected is that there wasn’t a COLA adjustment since inflation is so low.

Heh, I wouldn’t be surprised if most people in their 60s would give anything to be 20 again :) .

I hope Speaker Boehner understands that his reign will be short.
