When we were kids we were forever seeing a solitary shoe, especially, for some reason, when we were on holiday. The Tale Of The One Legged Man therefore became a long running family joke/saga.

Frankly, I find myself more curious about the amount of underwear I bike past on the road.

I have a similar reaction when I see a bra or panties on the side of the road, though it’s more of a “what the heck did I miss?” reaction.

Gene Weingarten (the man behind Barney and Clyde) did an informal study, examining stray shoes while walking. He discovered they are mostly baby shoes, mostly girl’s shoes, mostly left shoes. His theory is, girl’s shoes are easier to kick off than boy’s shoes (strap vs laces) and left shoes because their right foot is stronger and it’s easier to pop off the left one.

Was their oatmeal laced this morning. I see more abandoned masks these days than shoes.

Way back when, I remember seeing a pair of shoes laced together and hanging over a phone wire. I was told that it indicated something about either drug, gang or prostitution in the home in front of the shoe. Don’t have any idea if it was true, but it was also said it was a secret sign that the police didn’t know about yet. Could have just been a prank played by someone who didn’t like shoes or the person that wore them…I do know somebody had to go buy new shoes though.

Clearly someone got mugged for their rare, collectible right shoe and the left shoe was discarded.

Early one Sunday morning I was driving down the road and saw a pair of sneakers, socks, jeans, underwear, and a T-shirt. I guess it proves that there’s a fine line between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It was Sam Winchester’s shoe! He lost his in Season 3 of “Supernatural” when the bad luck happened. Those puppy dog eyes telling Dean, “I lost my shoe” were so sad & funny as hell.

My theory is that it could have fallen out of someone’s gym bag or if they’re moving to another place; out of their suitcase or something. I’ve seen the random shoe alongside highways too. Always wonder what the person’s reaction is when they get to their destination and find one shoe missing. lol
