I was once playing a course close to the ocean in Florida and standing on the tee next to a slightly up hill par 3 that was just high enough you could not see the green only the tee. For some reason there were sea gulls swarming the course that day and the guy on the tee hit a fairly on line shot but short. A gull swooped in and tried to pick up the ball but as he took off lost the ball and dropped it where it the rolled into the hole. I was on the front 9 and the hole was on the back 9. When we made the turn and stopped to re.oad the coolers the guy was buying everyone the traditional hole in one drinks. We didn’t have the heart to tell him what really happened and I doubt he would have believed us anyhow.

Last place he would look for it.. just putting it on the edge of the hole would be good enough.

Reminds me of a Nash Bridges episode where a running subplot was NB’s bank giving him a hard time. At the end, he’s at the teller’s window and, when the teller turns his back for a moment, NB slides two pennies INTO the cash drawer, so it won’t balance.
