Re-reading C&H after I’ve raised kids, I find a lot of these comics sad. Calvin is a lonely little boy.

Well isn’t that just #@%§ spiffy.

Well, as long as it’s set to ‘stun’, I say fire away. The inhabitants of the sprawling city just might thank him.

It seems that there are few bullies that don’t meet a bigger bully.

Kind of reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode (that I saw when it was new).

So Calvin does know some geometry. I wonder if he knows the correct names of the shapes.

Before Spiff was a Spaceman, what was he called? Spunky Spiff? Spitting Spiff? So many questions….

Let’s appreciate the fact Calvin shows more intelligence here compared with Moe. Which makes his possible action in the last panel really unpleasant.

Forget Calvin’s suspension…Spaceman Spiff may face prosecution for squashing miniature farmers when he pressed his gigantic hands to the earth…

If we off’d all the school yard bullies, where’d we find our future corporate execs? And, IP attorneys?

I love the way some of these classics end keeping you in suspense.

Was this the only time Spiff discovered life and didn’t treat it like an enemy?

Phasers… er rock…set to stun.

Had a friend’s daughter in grade 4 getting bullied. She told the parents. She told the teacher. Teacher had a talk with the parents of the bully. Nothing changed. After a while, he was giving her trouble again and she smacked him one. She’d followed protocol and no successful intervention had occurred so she did what she had to to get his attention.

She got suspended from school and a note in her permanent file.

Strangely, the bully left her alone after that.

Another kid I knew was having trouble on the bus. He told the driver who told the kids to knock it off. It came back. His folks talked to the school and said they’d talk to the parents. It kept going. finally, one morning, he went over the seat at the two jerks behind him with both fists swinging.

His dad said to the principal: “He did everything you asked him to and you failed to stop it, so he tried to stop it himself. Why are you calling me?”
