We saw in Jonathan Swann’s excellent Axios interview how Trump tries to distort and misrepresent data (as satirized in the ’toon) to present a false and misleading narrative of his disastrous handling of an infection that other countries have managed to contain far more successfully. No matter how much lipstick Trump might try to put on that pig, he may lie, distort and misrepresent, but fortunately Axios’ Swann was having none of it, and rubbed Trump’s nose in the actual facts. Appreciation to good journalists who push back and refuse to just sit there and listen to Trump’s lies.
U.S.A. is number one!
Number one in cases confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Number one in deaths from COVID-19.
Number one in being travel-banned by the most countries (kind of an appropriate irony, considering how eager Trump was to ban travel from what he called “sh**hole countries,” many of which are doing far better than the U.S.)
Number one in most lies told by a president, including his attempt to bamboozle Axios’ Jonathan Swann as noted above.
But while other countries have leaders that are aggressively tackling the pandemic, we have Trump who ignores science, disregards the massive resources his predecessor left to him, proclaims a national emergency and then takes virtually no national action of substance, keeps telling us that it will just “go away” — “disappear, like magic” — without a vaccine until he shrugs his disinterested shoulders and dismisses the massive (and growing) piles of dead bodies with “it is what it is” and rushes off to make tee time.
“American exceptionalism” is #1 on the list of misconceptions leading to tragic consequences. We are drowning in our mythology of superiority. We draw the circle too small when we define our tribe, and we fail to recognize when the situation requires that we relinquish some of our rights and take on responsibility for the common good.
According to www.worldmeters.info/coronavirus/country/us/ at 8:27am 08-06-2020 the number is 161,635. I put this here because reporting always seems to lag behind the latest number and yes, I know, with the number going up constantly it’s hard to keep current. The horrific number from this site is “Projections”. Somewhere between 198,000 and 250,000 by October 31. United States of America, nobody does it better.
This president is #1. Probably will be #1 for a century at least, maybe longer. You can never take that away from him! Long ago he made Buchanan the 2nd worst president in US history.
Wikipedia: “Over the next two to four months, the acute effects of the atomic bombings killed between 90,000 and 146,000 people in Hiroshima and 39,000 and 80,000 people in Nagasaki; roughly half of the deaths in each city occurred on the first day.”
Just musing here, but do you think that even Disaster Pumpkin’s loyalists would pay more attention to serious medical advice from Tony Fauci and Debbie Birx if they wore white coats and stethoscopes instead of that formal business attire?
And all those other countries on the chart had total lockdowns with social distancing and masking protocols that were followed by their citizens and are now in Phase 2 or 3 of their reopening. Meanwhile in the USA it looks like it won’t be for a few months before even Phase 1 can be started, assuming the idiot class will even follow recommendations. Donald Trump is the leading cause of death in the USA. 160,000+. 250,000 by Xmas?
Trump’s massive ego just won’t allow him to stick to interviews inside his adoring ultra right wing bubble. He actually thought he did great, just like his handling of the virus. His delusions continue to shine.
Can’t we, as a nation, just accept that Donald J. Trump is the world’s biggest jackass incompetent that ever walked on two legs, take him out back and beat the shit out of him, then kick him to the curb and be done with it?
Rex Tillerson was right: the guy really is a moron.
If we had a LEADER instead of the rapist/traitor currently occupying the White House, things would be very different. Of course, you can’t tell the maggots that: logic is NEVER taught in maggot school!
Biden shouldn’t really NEED to campaign (in a country with intelligent citizens, that is), but since it’s obvious that he does need to campaign, all he really needs to do is air commercials of Li’l Donnie’s imbecilities, insanities, and lies, in the interviews with Jonathan Swan and Chris Wallace (among MANY others!) Also, that whole Clorox thing……..
I know that Ivanka is only Li’l Donnie’s THIRD favorite person of all-time (Roy Cohn being second, and not even a maggot would doubt who is first), but IF she would take a break from reaping the profits from Chinese sweat shops (and being married to an android) and gave the tenth part of half a thought to her OWN reputation, she MIGHT could advise Daddy Undearest to step down. Of course, in that case MOTHER would become the prez, but we already did that with Nancy Reagan, didn’t we? And we survived THAT!

Lie about it frequently enough and people actually swallow it… hopefully not enough to re-elect him.
