2/3 seems a bit much. I suppose it must be true or Rall wouldn’t say it though. Probably.

I fall into the 2 and 3 categories, depending on which direction I come at it. IMO, the federal payment was pretty good at “fast” and pretty bad at “fair and careful”. Of course they then ignored the whole thing until it was a crisis again. Here in Oregon, the OR unemployment checks are STILL not coming for a significant fraction of those who lost their jobs. Despite hiring a myriad of workers (who, presumably are working slowly and interfering with their trainers) and replacing the director, who was well worth replacing, though I do think he was made the goat.

I’m self employed, partially, the rest being semi retired. I broke even with the PUA plus state contribution. I put aside the stimulus for a rainy day, and got by on SocSec. Now it’s gonna get interesting. I have plenty of toilet paper stockpiled, though. Oh wait, different crisis…

You know, I worked for the USPS for 42 years…. when I started, the workers had just gotten a huge pay raise due to reorganization from the old Post Office and a new Union contract…. Stamps were 5 cents, and I was starting at $3.51 per hour. When I retired, I had worked my way from a low paying clerk job to the highest paying non-managerial job (Electronic Technician), at the highest step (12 steps in each pay grade) and was barely making $30… and Stamps were nearly 50 cents….. that was close to a ten fold increase in the cost of stamps but even with a Union the worker’s pay did not come close to keeping up!

The median net worth of the average U.S. household is $97,300. Median is the middle point where half the households have more and half have less. Under 35: Median net worth: $11,100 (average net worth: $76,200). Jan 23, 2020 Marketwatch

And if you don’t believe in inequity, how does this happen?

The average American’s net worth is $692,100, according to Federal Reserve data. Mar 13, 2020 https://tinyurl.com/yxacn98z

This does say something about how poorly paid are the workers in the first place. The one time, many years ago, I got unemployment compensation, its was only about a third of my salary, so I gladly took almost any job that paid more than that. More recently though, a cousin of mine collected almost twice as much of his salary and did very well allowing him more time to find a position paying closer to his original salary. Still, income for US workers is stagnant with many having to do multiple jobs as I did in the years before retirement. Though I am doing fairly well now since I own my home and have other properties to draw from, my income is only a few thousand over the federal poverty level.

Hmm…Biden supporters portrayed as Dodos. Yes, despite this situation being part of human nature since the beginning of existence, and ignoring the steady progress of human rights, Rall leads us in a quest where we will ride unicorns over a rainbow bridge to a magical place where the good part of human nature combines to rid the world of the bad part. Oh, and enjoy Trump. many of us will pay a heavy price but Rall will probably emerge unscathed.

A recent study showed that people receiving unemployment benefits engage in a more intensive job search than those who are not. Whether it’s because they are required to participate in a job search to receive those benefits is immaterial. The Repukelican talking point is BS as are so many of them.

Rich Repukelicans lecturing the poor and working class about our work ethic is hypocritical and angers me and many others. When they start working 40 (or more) hours per week for crap wages and no fringe benefits 50 (or more) weeks per year then the pricks can talk to us about going to work. They need to get off their thrones, pull their heads out of their colons and do something useful for the majority not just perform virtual fellatio on the rich and powerful.

I’m so glad I lost my job in 2013 rather than now, so much simpler for me to blame Barry for my bad luck. I worked at the same company for 34 years 7k to 80k a year with no retirement money or a gold watch. I have always thought life is what you make of it but I’m a White Straight Male so what do I know.

I mean $600/week equals $15/hour for 40 hours. 2/3 of Americans working for less than that as the status quo for full time blue collar employment…no wonder there is a huge economic crisis in America that has nothing to do with COVID-19.

What I find frustrating about this cartoon and others like it he draws is that they don’t deal with what the real situation is… for example, maybe Biden is a dodo (I don’t agree), but if so, what is a good solution? I’d like to see him push for something that actually could happen.

Biden backs a $15/hour minimum wage & has a labor policy that’s been heavily influenced by Sanders’ objectives.

Ted is a cultist as much as any MAGA.
