Why the question changed to “7+2=?” ? Wasn’t it “2+7=?”

@*Gweedo Murray* : You said yesterday, 5/30: “Touché on the editing method, Florchi. I believe I had written to “Contact Us” at the bottom right of the page about restoring the edit function as it was. I urge others to write Gocom about it also.”

Gweedo: I too would prefer to see the old edit function restored. But I can’t help but wonder if the new method of having to use copy & paste/delete is to prevent the “placeholding” of first position – i.e. typing something very short (or just a “x”) and then using edit (under the old system).

I find it astounding that if anyone puts the name “American” somewhere in their organizational name, that it automatically puts some kind of naive, “it’s gotta’ be good and upright” shackle on people’s brains. The ACLU has a nice sounding name; their purpose for America is not good.

Calvin should have come up with a better one than that.Needs Hobbes ? This is a rare moment when Watterson fires a shot across the bow of a empty boat.

I actually did get out of dissecting a frog in high school biology using that argument. The teacher let me do a written test on it instead.

I actually had a kid try to pull that one the other day.

Of course the same kid told me they didn’t have to do their work or behave because the world was going to end over the weekend.

Any excuse can and will be tried by somebody out there.

anney wright, Night-Gaunt49, and Blackwolff9,I’m sorry. I guess I should have made it clear that I was not referring to Kurt Vonnegut, the writer. I was referring to a poster who called himself vonnegut. He was here when I started posting almost two years ago, and was almost always nasty and sarcastic, especially to me and a few others. I tried to befriend him, but he would have none of it. That vonnegut departed from the premises at least several months ago. Whether or not he just got bored, humiliated, or even passed away I have no idea. Perhaps he assumed another name and is still here. I harbor no illwill toward him/her and my remarks were intended to be humorous and in response to gmartin997 who had brought a funny story about Kurt Vonnegut the writer.

Oldfarmhand, that “oct” symbol on your calculator means that it is in octal arithmetic mode. So yes, 2+7=11 … in octal.

No criticism was intended – actually I thought the “x” business was pretty clever and couldn’t see the harm in it. But Gocomics may see things differently. I would prefer to have the old Edit back & forget the “rule book.”
