Well, at least now he’s got a 50-50 chance of getting it right.

In the south where I live, wives ball socks up for their husbands in pairs…..which means they always match and are right-side out. It’s just something that southern women do out of love and caring. Earl must live up north…

@kreole, I now live in the South, but grew up in the North where my mother always matched our socks for us and I do so also..

My mom also balled matching socks. I just fold over the tops. And yes, only a wife could tell one was inside-out.

kreole, My mom always balled up our socks when we were young. We were never further south than southern Michigan.

My mom folded socks in pairs, she told me balling them up stretched the elastic…

I still match pairs and fold them together. Saves searching later. Of course, my husband has chosen Earl’s solution - he only has one style and color of socks. I still pair them for him.

I must be the exception here I don’t do any of this. My hubby wears only white with commy sole shoes. My causual trouser socks I try to keep the same. With pt work knee highs all look the same.

If Opal didn’t have something to complain about, she’d have to find it. She is not happy when she can’t find fault with Earl, and Earl isn’t happy unless he is getting an earful from Opal.

The joys of a long-term marriage.

I always balled my socks as my mom did for me as well. When I got married and I did that for my husband, he said that he didn’t like them like that just folded… He now does his own laundry, he is far more complicated that I thought :-)

Earl and Opal have a lovely life. They’ve grown older together, enjoy their family and are comfortable with each other.

FlacaLore1, when I got married, I also did things for my husband and nothing was ever right. He wanted his shirts hung in the closet by “color”, his underwear folded a specific way and like your husband, he ended up doing his own laundry. Laundry wasn’t the only thing he ended up doing himself when he complained.

Lived all my life in Pennsylvania and my mother always balled my socks too. When I started doing my own laundry I quit that since it seemed to ruin the elastic. OTOH, I buy all my socks the same style and colours so I can grab any two in the drawer and have a matched set.
