Schools were little germ and disease factories WAY BEFORE covid. Now, they are lethal in their manufacture.

Trump is literally trying to kill us.

Not even survival of the fittest applies as we do not have a complete and accurate profile of how the disease is spread asymptomatically or before symptoms appear and who is most vulnerable in a given cohort.

Everyone is so anxious to open classrooms and say that children don’t suffer like adults (which may not be true, since there has been little testing on children, and several studies showing long term lung, liver, and even brain damage).

That being said, the same case is not true for the teachers. So if the teachers become infected, who will be left to actually teach the classes?

There’s a good chance the teachers will simply refuse to teach in-person classes because it’s too dangerous. This is ALL Trump’s fault.

School starting really freaks me out. We have two teenagers living here and their mother is a teacher. There just isn’t any way that we won’t come closer than 6 feet in this house.

My daughter graduated HS in May of 2019. Many times I asked her where her books were so I could help with her homework. She often said “No, Dad, it’s all online, no books”. This we see Blackboard and Moodle and Google Docs taking the place of pen and paper well before Covid-19. Even Chem labs and Biology Labs were done in a virtual environment. Sad…..she won’t know the smell and feel of cutting open a dead frog…..

(Republican bursts into classroom) “I’m here to ensure that you ‘teach the controversy!’ To that end, half of today’s class will be taught by a grade-school drop-out who ‘heard on the Internet’ that vaccinations are part of a Commie plot that cause demonic possession.”

Some years back a 50-year old friend of our reactivate her primary education teacher’s certificate. She resumed teaching and spent two years sick from every bacterial and viral illness you can think of. Three weeks after schools open their doors, teachers will contract COVID at ten-times the rate of front-line healthcare workers. And Trump has insisted on softening the CDC guidelines. Heaven help the teachers.

“Because most children won’t die” is not an acceptable reason to reopen schools. “We are willing to sacrifice YOUR children for OUR stock market” is even worse.

For the record, Dr. Birx (reluctantly) explained that 0.5% of school-aged children will die of COVID-19. That equals 283,000 dead children.

My oldest is a teacher. Her school has laid out plans for 4 different scenarios that anticipate some level of in-school teaching. The state will issue guidance soon and the schools districts will adjust accordingly and adopt the best plan as they see fit. That plan will be adopted based on input from the teachers (and their union, of course) and other staff, parents and further adjusted. The odds are that whatever plan is adopted it will include a hybrid of in-class and distance learning, at least for the fall.

Let’s make this crystal clear – as if there was any doubt before, this Republican president is willing to kill our children if it’s good for the economy and his numbers. Think about that for a nanosecond. We’re talking about kids so young that if you told them “You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose” they would immediately try to do just that. And in this country people a lot older are dumb enough to try it too and also dumb enough not to realize the consequences. There is zero doubt that the psychopath in chief has no concern for any citizen who isn’t a rich, white male and who also has to donate massively to maintain his lunacy.

I wonder if Trump and Devos will bring back the old civil-defense duck-and-cover drills from the 50’s. Duck under your desk to avoid the virus. Besides, 99% of people are unaffected. Another idiotic and dangerous plan from the Idiot In Chief. The only thought process involved is geared to help Trump’s re-election. His callous disregard for human life is appalling.

Most classrooms, at least in my area, do not have the space necessary to do social distancing with even 20 children in an elementary class. If school administrators convert every possible room, there still won’t be enough space for all the children to be in school at once, and where will they find enough teachers to staff extra spaces?

Most teachers I know were sick to some degree for their first two years. They built up some immunity, or they stopped teaching. Teachers are exposed to every germ and virus that comes along, and immunity to old germs and viruses doesn’t confer immunity to the new viruses and germs.

Given the lack of a vaccine, without enough PPE and social distancing, teachers are going to get sick. Some will suffer permanent health damage. Some will die. How many children?

How will school administrators address this? Bring half the kids in a day? Bring some in during the morning, send those home, and bring in the rest in the afternoon? I do not envy school administrators in this situation at all.

If re-opening schools is not done in a manner that respects the knowledge of the medical professionals, and if resources are not provided, there will be thousands upon thousands of needless deaths.
