I never imagined in my boomer lifetime to see this nation literally unravel in such spectacular stupidity. Or perhaps I grew wiser to the vast undercurrents of tribalism, willful ignorance, and hatred that was just under the veneer of civility. I stopped buying the American exceptionalism taught in high school and realized their was much to learn and adopt from the best practices of other cultures and nations. Unfortunately the majority of Americans can’t or won’t see anything beyond red, white, and blue I got mine, screw you. This country is seriously broken, and I don’t relish the thought of dying in the world’s greatest banana republic.
An interesting statistic: Covid-19 Hospitalization Rate: 4.6 per 100,000; 2018-2019 Hospitalization Rate: 69 per 100,000. Should we relax…stop social distancing…stop wearing masks…NO! Just a point about the politicization of the news media.

The loss of 126,000 of my countrymen to denial, delay, and incompetence has made the day feel more like a day of national mourning rather than a celebration to me, especially since current projections show the number of deaths will likely double by October.
